Alan, My Wise family has our start with James Wise of Newbury, MA, ba1675, and was married to Elizabeth (Toppan) Clarke. They had six children, one of whom (Ebenezer) moved to Hebron NH. That's where they left New England on the migration west. Do we have any links? Christy Wise Martin

Looking to validate info. on my GGGgrandfather Andrew WISE b. 1797 PA. The family story is that my WISE family were actually from England & France (not easy for me to believe) and migrated to VA, then to PA, then to Muskingum/Licking Co. OH. I know that Andrew m. Mary Weaver, b. 1800 PA. The Adam Wise Book published last year indicates that my Andrew was son of Jacob Wise b. 1767 son of Adam Weiss (Wise) b. 1723/4. I can't make the connection to this WISE family that lived in Washington Co. PA and got their via MD and Germany. Does anyone have information on my Andrew (and/or Mary Weaver)? I am looking for the following family of my great-great grandmother, mary Weiss/ Wise, who married John Dehart in Dauphin County in 1861 or 1862. They lived in Highspire, Dauphin County, PA (near Harrisburg), where her father, Jacob Weiss/ Wise, wove rugs on his loom in the office of the railway station in Highspire, where he worked as a ticket agent. The family called themselves both Weiss and Wise, according to our family records, and while the following census record has her 10 in 1850, family records have Mary Ann Weiss born in 1841 or 1842. The following is from the 1850 census: Dauphin Co., Highspire Twp., p. 185, household 16, family 16. Jacob Wise, 44M (b abt 1806), Weaver, $400 (worth of his property), b Switzerland Joanna S. (Johanna Susanna on family records), 41 F (b abt 1809), b Germany Sarah Elizabeth, 15F (b abt 1835), b PA, attending school. Harriet C., 12F, " " Mary Ann, 10F, " " Barbara Anna, 7F, " " Amanda R., 4F, b PA Jason, 1M, b PA There may have been more children born after 1850 census enumeration, it is possible there were also children born before 1850 and not still livingin 1850. If Jason was the only boy, any descendants bearing name Weiss or Wise are descended from him. IT is a relatively unusual name. There was no "Weiss"in Dauphin Co in 1850 census, prob enumerator couldn't spell "Weiss". I gather this is the one Weiss found. I am trying to find info on Samuel Wise b 1850 Ohio.He was married to Henrietta and had at least 4 children. 2 of the children were named Charles and Clarence. They were in the 1880 census for Putnam WV. Please contact me if you have any info.
