Listmembers, When you send a message to any list it is so important to make certain you have an appropriate subject line. Some people get a lot of e-mail and are not able to read it all. Therefore they scan the subject lines of their e-mail and delete any that doesn't interest them or for which they have no information to add. One or more of these persons could possibly hold the key piece of information for which you are looking. The subject is where you get their attention. These messages are archived. When people are searching the archives, subject lines help them find the messages that are important to them. And your e-mail could get overlooked if the subject line does not match the content of the message. You may miss out on a connection. In the near future there will be threaded archives. A good subject line will cause your e-mail to be archived in the correct thread. I believe most subject line mistakes are the result of clicking on the "Reply" button and writing your message without checking to make sure the subject line is still appropriate. Please accept this as a friendly reminder. I am not pointing at anyone on this list. I made this very mistake yesterday myself. We should all try to pay attention to what we send out. Keep posting but watch those subject lines. Jim

Hi list, While doing some newspaper research I found this: Located in 'The Herald-Tribune' Nov 15, 1945 edition (a Ripley Co, Batesville IN area newspaper) "The Court has approved the expenditure of $50 per year by Edna K. Wise, Guardian for the support of each of her four children and she is authorized to expend from their funds $50 per year for the support and education of each of her said wards." Maybe this will help someone. I am connected to Weiss/Wise in the Ripley Co area, but dont know of any connection. Hi everyone! I am researching the WEIS/WISE line in the Ripley Co., Indiana area. I am descended from ANNA MARY WEISS b.abt 1851 in Alsace France/Germany. She married JACOB BERGHMANN in 1875 in Ripley Co.,IN. I need any info about this family. Her father could be IGNATIUS WEISS or FRANCES X. WEISS. There are alot of the Weiss name in this area in this time-frame. I just dont have the connections yet. Thanks! I was wondering if anyone on this list is researching Wyse from Scotland. My Wyse was married to a Callander. I was told to make sure I check out all possibilities of spelling. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. F. Sarver ---------- > From: WISE-D-request@rootsweb.com > To: WISE-D@rootsweb.com > Subject: WISE-D Digest V99 #20 > Date: March 2, 1999 3:23 AM >
Words to the Wise is published quarterly, eight pages each issue, however, due to postage and costs of copying it is possible I will go to only 3 issues this year as copying costs doubled last summer at Office Depot and Office Max where I had found it cheapest to be copied. The costs is $10 per year and I hate to go up on the price. The Newsletter was started by Rachel Hayward and I took over in 1994. It was based exclusively on Adam Wise, and is still primarily for his descendants but I have broadened what I include and put in stories, queries and lineage's of other Wise lines because many of the readers have not made their connections to the Adam Wise family and they may make a connection to another one or to Adam Wise by clues from these other families. And in addition it is a way to exclude a line of research if it does not connect. Any of those reasons can help someone. I welcome queries and include as many as feasible, I welcome stories of Wise families, and current news of Adam Wise descendants. (I get very little of that!) I will be happy to send you a newsletter gratis if you think you connect to this family. The Frederick Wise of Georgia family does not connect unless in Germany before immigration, the Accomack and Maine Wise familes are English and do not connect. I have run some articles on those families in the past. I will be happy to email copies of those articles if you write and ask me at my email address of rhoese@interconnect.net. For those you want a copy of the last newsletter for a look see send me your address privately and I will send one. If you want to subscribe send me a check or money order made out to Ruth Hoese, put a note in the memo line of Words to the Wise, that is for banking ease. Adam Wise antecedents have been traced into Germany he immigrated in 1748, settled in MD, and sometime after his 2nd marriage went to Washington, CO, PA where the land is still in Wise hands. Children by first wife Maria Elizabetha Graf: Andrew, b 1748 in Germany; Frederick b 1753 Frederic, Carroll CO, MD; Henry abt 1755 Carroll CO, MD; Peter b 1760 Carroll CO MD; Anna Maria (Mary) b 1761mCarroll CO, MD; Adam Jr.. b 1763 Carroll COMD; Maria Elizabetha (Marianne) b 1765 Carroll CO MD: By 2nd wife Catherine: Jacob b1767 Carroll Co MD; Daniel b 1769 Carroll CO MD; Abraham abt 1755 Washinton CO PA; Tobias b 1777 West Bethlehem Washington, PA; Ulian (Julian) abt 1778 Old Fort Redstone, Washington, PA; Judith abt 1779, Washington, PA. Wondering if this Andrew Wise from 1797, PA, might be connected to my Andrew Wise? He died 30 March 1927, in CLeveland, Ohio; born there too 24 Dec. 1852. Married to Caroline Tiernan. Later spelled the name Weiss, but I have records with it spelled Wise. If anyone has any information or is connected, please share. Thanks, Gail May

Dear List Members: Has anyone seen any recent information concerning Richard Wise, born circa 1647, most likely in England, first documented appearance in St. Mary's County, Maryland was approximately 1792, and died 1731? It is believed he is from the Wise's of Devonshire. I am looking for information on William and Josephine Wise, who moved from PA to CA in the earlier part of this century, possibly during the Depression, possibly following the work. They had three children, two sons and a daughter.
