I have in my possession at this time a 1980 publication titled: A History of Pine Grove Cemetery - Yamacraw, Ms. There are several WISE family members listed: Introduction: These cemeteries are located in an area that was once a part of Hancock County, Mississippi. In 1890, Pearl River County was formed and they became a part of that county. They are the main two cemeteries in the Pine Grove area often referred to as "Yamacraw". (There is also a small slave cemetery located in the "Y" of the old Columbia-Gainesville road.) Pine Grove Cemetery is adjacent to the Pine Grove Baptist Church, approximately seven miles west of Picayune, Mississippi, on Pine Grove Road - -which begins at Wheat's Curve and ends at the foot of Cybur Hill. (Cybur was once a thriving saw mill town of hundreds.) The McGehee Cemetery is located off Pine Grove Road on the Dumas Wise Road (once the old Columbia-Gainesville Road) approximately two miles from Pine Grove Cemetery. Dear Chris, If I were you, I'd stick with this List for wahile, and also check out the archives at Rootsweb.com. Then you might look these folks up in the Connecticut Ancestry books available. Dear Christy, I don't have her b. date, only her d. date and m. date, which I already posted yesterday. However, since she was m.in 1707, and her husband was b. 1780, I would judge she most probably was b. in the 1680-1689 period. She was b. in Essex, MA, but I do not have the town. Also, I don't have a James WISE, but he could have been her brother, who knows? Betty Sullivan Cmartn@aol.com wrote: > > What year was Mercy (Mary) Wise born in Guilford CT? I cannot connect him to anyone. He left South Carolina and went to Tennessee and then on to Illinois, he descendants ended up in Missouri and Texas. I have checked a little on the Georgia Wise's and feel reasonably sure they are connected but I need proof. Janet Wise Eiskina Pierce City, Mo.
Thanks, Betty. I don't have James Wise's birth date either, just the facts that he married before 1700 to Mrs. Elizabeth Toppan Clarke whose first husband, Nathaniel Clarke, Jr., died at sea in 1690. Their first known child was born in either 1700 or 1701. James died at the age of 82 in 1757. I haven't been able to find the immigrant ancestor nor any of James' siblings. Any suggestions?? Chris
