He had grandsons both named John who moved to Buncombe Co., NC and then spilled over the mountains into North GA and SE TN. I haven't gotten that far on proving those on the TN side yet. 3. The Wise Family in MS & LA might be from the Benjamin Wise family of Rutherford, Rowan and Burke Co., NC. Try subing to the KILLIAN list and inquire about someone working on the Willian-Wise connections. They might be able to help you or sub to the CATAWBA-WEST-L@rootsweb.com and post to that. Might be someone there to help you. You are not a part of the Frederick Wise family in Lincoln Co., NC on which I'm working, although people easily confuse them... 3. Hello Jacque, I thought I'd already answered this message but can't find any trace of it so assume I didn't. Wyse was my maiden name, my father was from Scotland. There are Wyse's all over the world. The story we were told was that we were decended from Napolean Bonaparte and when he was defeated at Waterloo the family scattered. My mother never quite believed it till she started getting phone calls from visitors to Canada where they would look up the name in the phone book. We lived in Toronto at that time and there were only two listed, my father and my grandfather. After hearing the same story from all these strangers my mother had to accept it. I hope this helps and answers your question. 3. I am seeking information about Henry Weis (Weiss?) who married my paternal grandmother, Amelia "Mattie" Nettlebeck Pope, subsequent to her being widowed in 1915. I don't know where or when Henry married my grandmother. When Amelia's first husband, Sylvester Pope, died Feb. 1915, she lived in Vandalia, Fayette County, IL. I visited the Fayette County courthouse and Evans Library in Vandalia earlier this year and found no reference to Henry in marriage, death, or census records. After marriage to Henry Weis, they lived in South Sioux City, NB. I believe Amelia died in 1938, probably in NB (not sure), and that after Amelia's death Henry removed to Beatrice, NB. I would appreciate any information about Mr. Weis, and will be glad to share what I have learned. Sincerely, Ellen Pope Rogers llen Pope Rogers =20

I ask because I'm looking for John Wise or Wyse who was born somewhere about 1812, I thought he was born in Scotland because he was married there and his children were born there, he married Jane Mair in 1844 in Uphall, West lothian.
