Hi everyone, I'm new to this list and I'm hoping someone can help me solve a mystery. For the past few years I have been researching the Livingston branch of my family tree (mostly in New York State). I was at a library in a small town one day and came across "The Joseph Livingston Bible Records". This was like finding a gold mine for me. Now for the mystery. It was "Contributed by Miss Dorris M. Berring of Reedsburg, Wisconsin". No one from this family moved west to Wisconsin and I can't find out who Miss Berring was or who she was working for. Unfortunately I don't think I will be able thank Miss Berring for her work. On the S.S. Death Index there is a Dorris Berring (June 1897-July 1976) from Reedsburg, WI. I'm wondering if anyone remembers Miss Berring or who she work for (Genealogy Society?, Historical Society?). I can't understand how she got all this information on a New York family while living in Wisconsin (this was before computers). Any help in solving this little mystery would be appreciated.
