Would anyone have a clue to the meaning of the word "emptings." I run across the word in an 1872 diary. The author of the diary refers to the word many times in relation to making bread. She mentions she has to "set the emptings." Looking in a search engine, the closest is a substitue for eggs. However, I am looking for more specific details like what the ingredients may be or how it is made. Barbara
