    3. Leslie - I'll pull it out of my file and post it. But basically Clemens had attacked Andrew a couple of times. He eventually tried to poison him by removing raisins from a cake that Andrew's mother had baked for him and substituting cyanide! Fortunately Andrew realized that something was wrong almost immediately. There was a trial in 1889 and Clemens was sent to prison for a few years. Later, after he was released, he again attacked Andrew. That time he tried to beat him with a hickory club while Andrew was asleep. I have no idea what caused Clemens to react so violently towards his stepson.
