    1. [WISAUK] Greenfield, Sauk County / 1860
    2. Mark Echelberger
    3. Hi, I just found my Linus T. Gilbert in the 1860 Census for Greenfield. He and his wife, Lydia had a son, Willis that was born and died in Wisconsin. They had another son, Edwin that was born in the later part of 1860 in Wisconsin. I have three questions for those familiar with Wisconsin genealogy. 1) Where would deeds from the 1850s and 1860s be filed? They arrived about 1855-6 and left about 1864-5. They were farmers. 2) Is there a place the toddler would most likely be buried? I am wondering if he could be found in a cemetery or if he would likely be buried on the farm. 3) Are births from 1858 and 1860 too early to be recorded anywhere? This family was active in the Methodist Episcopal church in Connecticut before and after they were in Wisconsin. Thanks for any advice. Ginny

    1. Megan, John W.
    2. Hello, Is there a public library serving Sauk County -- a volunteer on this list who could check some records from 1800's ? One of the few census searches for John W. Megan have brought up an 1860 Wisconsin census record for: Megan, J. W. Sauk Co. P 462 Baraboo Could someone check this information and tell me what it says? And are there any voters registration or city directory references which might elaborate on this particular JW Megan? Know this is Christmas and everyone is busy, would like to know if someone is adding John to their lookups. My John was a two-career man: a "medical" career (I assumed as a physician, but maybe dentist or other?), and then became an ordained American Baptist pastor, mostly in Kansas. While there at Wayside, KS, he became ill and traveled to his daughter's home in Arkansas ; there he died in June 1917. Don't know daughter's name or specific address in Ark. Don't know exact date in June 1917. John WAS married to Susan Pitts formerly of Riga / Monroe County, NY. Susan's birth year was 1844. Thanks for your interest. Gayle Haffner Michigan

For whom was Deacon Thomas Lake named? My 2nd great-grandparents, Orison and Isabella Thomas lived on Cassell Prairie from about 1850 until they died in the late 1890s. 2. Julie Buckles
    3. Hello, I've been researching my ggg grandmother Cleora Stickney who married Elijah Wakefield, divorced in 1866 (Vernon co.) then married Henry True in 17 Jan 1869 (Sauk Co.). They apparently parted ways within the year because she is not listed on the census with him & he remarried Margaret Stueber in 1870. This was his third marriage -- he was first married to Kate Cunningham. Cleora's sister, Orra/Orril Addie/Abbey Stickney Ingalls lived nearby in Reedsburg. It seems likely Cleora would have gone to live with her but I can't find evidence of that. Elijah's pension records indicate she died in 1878 in Reedsburg but I can't find where she died or where she is buried. I'd love any information on Cleora, Henry & his wives and Orra Ingalls and her husband Thomas. 3. Hi, I'm looking for family that went to WI and then returned to CT in 8 years time. In the 1860 WI census index there is a Gilbert listed. I'm not sure if it is my family or not. If someone has the Saulk county census and wouldn't mind, I'd appreciate help in checking out this lead. The index says: L. Gilbert - Sauk County, Greenfield, page 600 I am looking for Linus Gilbert, wife Lydia and some children (Frank for sure). I've found that Linus sometimes looks like Lewis. Thanks for any help. 1. Re: John Kelley, Spring Green or Baraboo? 1850 - 1870
    2. Carole Hammond
    3. Kathy, Thanks for checking the Spring Green cemetery records for me. I guess if there wasn't a Presbyterian Church in the area in 1860 then they probably went to the Congregational Church. I'll bet the Lutheran services were in German at that time. I have found Martha Kelley's inlaws, Orison & Isabella Thomas, buried in the Prairie du Sac Cemetery so maybe that is where I will find John Kelley. There were other John Kelleys and Kellys in Sauk Co. but at this time I can't tell them apart. In the 1855 WI State Census there was a John Kelley in Baraboo on page 9 but I have not seen the actual record to see if it is him with his Elizabeth, Martha and 10 yr. old John with him. If they did live in Baraboo wouldn't that have been a long way to go courting? Thanks again, Carole >I checked the Spring Green area cemeteries for you and there is not a Kelley >listed at all. I also checked townships north and east of them. Nothing. >Spring Green is just across the river from Iowa County and just a few miles >to the east of Richland County.
