I have a copy of a page of the 1900 Baraboo census. I found it three years ago when I was just starting my research. I didn't write down the page number or the street this family lived on (I have learned the hard way about citations), which is the information I need so badly now. Would someone have the time to look it up for me? The name is Amos Baron, with his wife Nettie and their 4 children. Susan in Northern CA
As a result of the state budget crisis, the endangered list includes all the historic sites owned by the state of Wisconsin (according to the Wisconsin Trust for Historic Preservation). The budget cuts will also effect the Wisconsin Historical Library and the Historical Museum - help protect our heritage and our history. As a family history researcher you have very likely used the library in Madison... if the budget cuts are too severe even mandated services may have to be cut, such as burial sites protection and collecting government publications and records. Your support is needed to help reduce the reduction in the budget for the Wisconsin Historical Society. For information on the budget cuts http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/budget/ People need to attend the Legislatures Joint Finance Committee public hearings in your area. Testifying at a committee meeting, in person or in writing, is an effective way to let the members know your position. Don't let the word testify scare you... that is just how presentations to committees are labeled. You are limited to 3 minutes-be concise and clear. Register Support - Even if you don't intend to testify, registering is very important. Anyone can register their opinion to help educate their lawmakers. The lawmakers keep track of how many people register for a particular issue. Register AGAINST proposed reductions for Wisconsin Historical Society funds and staffing. Written statements may be given to the clerk when you register-for those of you who may not have the time to wait to testify. Please do not refer to family history as a hobby... there is no sympathy for supporting a hobby with tax money. http://www.legis.state.wi.us/cguide.htm
From the Wisconsin State Journal Thursday, March 27, 2003 (following is just a portion of the article) by Chris Martell http://www.madison.com/archives/read.php?ref=wsj:2003:03:27:262188:DAYBREAK For each of the last 11 years, the Wisconsin Trust for Historic Preservation has issued its list of the Ten Most Endangered Historic Properties and Preservation Watch. Usually, the buildings on the list are residences or commercial properties little known outside their immediate areas. This year, the list encompasses some larger issues, and looks at certain government bodies as threats to some of Wisconsin's historic treasures. As a result of the state budget crisis, the endangered list includes all the historic sites owned by the state of Wisconsin: The H.H. Bennett Studio and History Center in the Wisconsin Dells, the Madeline Island Historical Museum, Old World Wisconsin in Eagle, Pendarvis in Mineral Point, Stonefield in Cassville, Villa Louis in Prairie du Chien, Wade House in Greenbush, the first Capitol in Belmont, and Circus World Museum in Baraboo. Though none of the sites would be demolished, they would face shortened hours, or be closed. The sites certainly face neglect, and even worse.
Please follow the corrected links to get to these new pages compiled by the Historical society. Dear Listers, We are pleased to announce that two new areas have been added to the website of the Sauk County Historical Society that may be of interest to genealogists. The first is a listing of area churches with information on holdings and contact information. You can find this at http://www.saukcounty.com/schs/churches.htm The second is the index to our pre-1916 probate records which you can find at http://www.saukcounty.com/schs/probate.htm Here you will find the entire list of the thousand of names for which we have probate records and how you can access them. Thank you and happy hunting. The Sauk County Historical Society
Anyone have Potterville information? Carolyn [email protected] is very interested.

I think she may be a sister to my relative, Mary Miller Barnett. Do you have any information about your Hannah? This Hannah is the daughter of Mary Ann Sainsbury who was born in England in 1822, moved with her parents at a young age and settled near Big Creek. She first married a Mr. Miller and had five children, all girls I believe. In her obituary dated 7/18/1895 in the Reedsburg paper, it states that she leaves five daughters - Mrs. Sarah St. Clair, Mrs. Mary Barnett (both residing in WI), Mrs. Anna Watson, Colorado; Mrs. Ella Peterson of Texas and Mrs. Alice Wilson of Iowa; and one sone William Davis. So Hannah would possibly have passed away by 1895. I don't have Mr. Miller's first name but he supposedly died in the war, somewhere in the South. Afterwards, she married Thomas Davis and had two children by him. Hi Kathy, Could you see if there is a Eugene Haney Listed? He is the son of John Walker Haney and Mary Shields, I don't know if he ever married. Thanks Linda
An interesting new place to look for family heritage and connections. Wisconsin State Historical Society: http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/ Here is what they have to say about it: "This index leads to 112,000 obituaries and sketches of Wisconsin residents that appeared in more than 1,600 different books, magazines, and newspapers. The Wisconsin Name Index includes 150 county and local histories, dozen of professional directories and biographical encyclopedias, more than 60 scrapbooks containing 30,000 obituaries, and selected articles in Wisconsin magazines and newspapers. These publications were indexed by Wisconsin Historical Society librarians between roughly 1870 and 1970 but contain information on individuals from earlier date ranges. You can search the Wisconsin Name Index and purchase full text copies of available items which will be mailed directly to you."
Is there someone willing to take photos at the Pleasant Valley (Ebenezer) Cemetery? Happy to pay expenses. Margie
I also have the same index at my home as I am the one who made the index before I left the Historical Society. If you'd like me to check the list, I'd be more than happy to. Kathy Waddell --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Tax Center - forms, calculators, tips, and more
I believe the Sauk Co Historical Museum in Baraboo, WI holds an index for probates to about 1906. They have a website with contact information. Greetings, I'm hoping to connect with someone who may have access to a 1860 index for both Richland and Sauk Counties. I have recently found a BML record indicating my ggrandfather lived in one of those 2 counties. I have researched many leads for David Kings on Ancestory.com, but have never found the right one. My KING Family lived in Dodge County in 1850, and I have never found them anywhere on the 1860 census. They moved to Meeker Co. Minnesota in 1866, and they both lived the rest of the lives there. Here is the family that I'm looking for, and the BML records that state in 1854 David Wilson King purchased property in RICHLAND CO. and lived in SAUK CO.....anyone with an 1860 census index????? 854 BML Homestead Act. "David Wilson King" purchased 80 Acres in Richmond Co., and his place of residence is listed as SAUK Co 1 David Wilson King 1824 - 1895 b in Paris, Edgar Co.
