    1. [SAUK] Baraboo Newspaper index problems
    2. Kathy Waddell
    3. If you have been trying to check the Baraboo Library index for the Baraboo News Republic, you might have been getting a "page not found". Until they get it fixed, when you access the Baraboo Library's home page, click on LinkCat then click on newspapers. Then follow the prompts. Below is the response from the library regarding the problem. p.s. The library has gotten another grant for indexing the Baraboo News. I will be starting next week to finish the 1990s and I'll be trying to re-index 1901-1929. The grant runs for the next 6 months and I hope to get as much on-line as I can in that time. Kathy Waddell BarabooILL <[email protected]> wrote:Date: Wed, 23 Apr 2003 10:12:11 -0500 To: [email protected] From: BarabooILL Subject: index problems Hi, Kathy, Meg will fix the link to the indexes, and central automation will return the page numbers. Both may take some time, so if there's a way to put that note on your geneology links, you could tell them: 1. Don't worry about the page numbers, just cut and paste the rest of the info. (we can still go back to our staff telnet terminals and find the pages to answer requests.) 2. If you access through the Baraboo P L home page and the Local History link does not work, click on LINKCAT WEB, follow the new link, and then click on Newspapers. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. Nijole --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). 3. Is anyone in Sauk Co. going to be going to Baraboo in the near future? I would love it if someone could look in Box 156 of the Probate Records for John Kelley's probate papers. He died between 1860 - 1870. If it is possible, I would love to get copies of those papers and I will happily reimburse you for expenses and postage. I need to know if this John Kelley is my John Kelley of Cassell Prairie in Troy Twp. but he could have moved to a different town and still owned property in Troy Twp. He left a widow Elizabeth, a daughter Martha Kelley Thomas, and son John R. Kelley. If it isn't possible to get copies, perhaps you could take notes for me. Thank you, Carole Hammond Portland, Oregon

    2. A kind researcher, whom has since moved from Baraboo, made a copy of a biography for James L. Benson for me. How were people selected for this book? Who supplied the information and how accurate can one expect it to be? Can it be used as documentation or only as a guide to where to look for the proper documentation? Is there an index for this book? I am thinking it might have more of my family in it. Is it microfilmed and available for interlibrary loan? Thanks! Susan in Northern CA

    3. There are two Excelsiors in Wisconsin and they are not near each other. In Richwood Twp, Richland County, at the far southwest corner of the county is an Excelsior. In Sauk County there is an Excelsior in Excelsior Township. It isn't really a "town" like North Freedom or Rock Springs and I don't believe there is a town hall, etc. But it does exist. The township is located east of Reedsburg, Reedsburg Township and north of Freedom Township. It is also bordered by Baraboo and Delton Townships in part, and Dellona Township. Hope this helps.
