    1. [SAUK] Quakers
    2. I have recently discovered some of my Sauk County ancestors were Quakers. Some attended the monthly meetings in Ironton and others in Woodland. I can't find a Woodland Historical Society through google.com. Is there one? If not, who would I contact about the Woodland Quaker records? Susan/CA

    1. [SAUK] 1875 and 1885 WI Census/Brigham
    2. Does anyone have access to the 1875 and 1885 WI censuses? I am looking for Joseph Brigham b in England with a daughter, Josephine and a son Stillman. I have that both children were born in 1876, but I think they were a year or two apart. I have found Stillman with his mother and stepfather, John Riles, in 1880, but no Josephine. I know she was alive, as she is my great grandmother. Where would a child so young be? Looking forward to any help on this, my latest mystery. Susan/CA

    3. Delbert was a member of the Ironton church, so I am guessing that he kept the records for the church. I would contact the church, and see if they know where their records are. In my experience with Blackhawk, the church records did not give you any more than the County records. 2. ***I have a list of 9 Sauk County marriages dated 1856 to 1904 that I found on line on a Sauk County marriages database. I carelessly forgot to copy the URL and now can't seem to find the database anywhere. It included volume and page number, bride and groom with place of residence and place of marriage, bride's and groom's parents including the mother's maiden name. This information is worthless without the URL. I wrote "USGenWeb" on the sheet and "Sauk County". I know these are Sauk County since they took place in Baraboo or Reedsburg for the most part. Does anyone on this list have any knowledge of this database?**** Would you be sure to post the URL to the list? This will be a great help to many of us. Susan/CA

    3. I am working on verifying the Sauk County marriage list for the State Historical Society and have a complete list alphabetical by groom from 1848 - 1906 (and verified so far through 1865). To my knowledge, there is currently no list online of the Sauk County marriages. The State Historical Society is in the process of having the marriages verified for each county. They hope to eventually publish the information. Whether it will be online or hardback, and whether it will cost or not, I do not know their plan. This will take some time to accomplish, months and maybe years to complete. I am currently able to verify the original certificate and am finding many discrepancies with the marriage books they have at the Register of Deeds. At Sauk County, the researcher is able to look in indexes and check marriage books that were done by a clerk, long ago. The clerk transcribed information from the original certificates into a book that was available to the public. The original certificate was put into a locked file, probably to preserve it and keep the original from being misfiled or taken. Today they are only accessible by the current clerks at the Register of Deeds office. When you order a marriage certificate ($7.00 each), you get a copy of the original certificate. What I am finding, though, is the clerk often misspelled the names or left off important information from the pages of the marriage books. When the work that I am attempting to accomplish is completed, many of the names will be corrected and more information will be available. I just wish that the ministers and justices of the peace were better at handwriting!! Oh my, are some of them SLOPPY! Then again, there is the way they wrote years a! go that makes your eyes cross sometimes!! If you are able to purchase a copy of the certificate, you may receive a bonus of birthdates and bride's place of birth. There is no room in the marriage books for this information (although on the work I'm doing for the State, bride's place of birth will be included.) Anyway, if there is such a place online, PLEASE let everyone know!!! If not, I will be happy to check the records I have. Just drop me a line as to who you are looking for. I am usually at the courthouse once a week to do this verification so I am always obtaining more information. I would be happy to help. 1. [SAUK] Plat maps of Sauk county
    2. Julie Edwards
    3. There are 3 from about that time period. 1861 map of Sauk County, surveyed by Wm H Canfield -- gives lots of location names and lay of the land info, plus homes of very early settlers, tho not really a plat map. Need to know what township you want. 1877 map of Sauk county, published by M G Tucker -- is a true plat map. Also by townships. 1896 plat map -- larger format. Copies of townships or small areas can be ordered from the Sauk County Historical Society in Baraboo, and are reasonably priced.
