What info is on the 1855 state census? Does someone have access? I am looking for the following: PILLER, JAOCB State: WI Year: 1855 County: Dane County Record Type: Township: Middleton Page: Database: WI 1855 State Census Index Susan/CA
Not much info on the state census...... Censuses were taken by the state of Wisconsin from 1836, when it was a territory, until 1905. The 1836, 1838, 1842, 1846, 1847, 1855, 1875, 1885, 1895, and the surviving fragments of the 1865 censuses resemble the early federal censuses, listing only the head of a household by name and summarizing the number of others. The 1905 census was the only state census in Wisconsin to list all the members of a household by name. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, September 06, 2003 9:34 PM Subject: [SAUK] 1855 WI State Census > What info is on the 1855 state census? I think it is wonderful that someone took the time to post these items. I'm not related to any of the mentioned people, but I'm from Baraboo originally and enjoy reading them anyway. In my opinion postings of this sort should be shared with the LIST and NOT kept private. After all, isn't this why you joined a LIST so you could find information? You never know when you will read something that will mean something to you and aid in your searching. Most activity I have seen on this list in ages!! Keep it up! And lets all get more involved and add some of our relatives obits to share with others and wake up this SAUK list. I'm interested in finding out anything on the David & Emma Clements on the 1870 Westfield Census. He is listed as 34 and born in NY. Living with them is Frank & Phoebe Frost. I believe Emma is Emma Frost, right age information, and daughter of Arvy & Catherine Frost. I can't seem to locate this couple anywhere on the 1880 Census though. THey have a son named William 3 years old (1867). Anyone verify, or researching this family? Thanks John

I have been posting some articles this morning from the Baraboo News Republic. I asked the list if this would be good to do and received several "please do" e-mails. Since starting this morning I have received many thank yous, one person that made a hit, and one 'please stop.' I got the idea from a similar thing being done on a NJ mailing list. Imagine all the information we each have on those copied newspaper articles in our files! I'd like to know if I should continue from the list administrator, or is there a better place to post them. I have a couple more on the page I'm working on. I will do these and then stop until I hear from you. Usually it won't be this many in one day, but I am home from work and the kids are gone. Susan/CA
