Hi Sue! It is the Royal Neighbors Association. It was a group that came from the "catholic" religion and dealt with insurance at a rather reasonable rate and still does. I forget where their headquarters are but it is a proactive little group. You might be able to find them on the Internet if you do a search on them. :) Sharon in Sunny AZ -----Original Message----- From: Eireniko@aol.com [SMTP:Eireniko@aol.com] Sent: Thursday, May 27, 1999 4:50 AM To: WISAUK-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [WISAUK-L] What does this mean? Duh, Mikki. You didn't have to go to rootsweb for the answer. They are buried in Oak Hill cemetery which is on the north edge of the village of Merrimac. It's on Baraboo Road at Marsh Road. If you want to stop at the Museum before you go, I'll copy the pages from the cemetery book so you can see about where their graves are. Let me know. We're open Saturday and Sunday, 12-5. My mother's kin came from the area of Cazenovia/Westford Township. They came @ 1857. The first Duren was William/Wilhem Duren/Dueren, he was Born in Anstel, Germany, 12-9-1819. His parents were Johann and Walburgis (Deutzman) Duren. William/Wilhelm Duren mar. Anna Sybilla Katherine Hansen, 2-17-1844, in Rommerskirchen, Germany. Anna Hansen was born, 11-6-1822, in Sinsteden, Germany. Her parent's were Peter Joseph and Metilda (Ruttgers) Hansen. A Lambert Hansen was also an early settler in the Cazenovia area. Would that Lambert have been a brother of Anna's? Did she have any other siblings? I am wondering what happened to him and if he had a family in the Caz area? Also, did Wilhelm Duren have any other siblings that may have also settled in the Caz area? Or if they came and settled in any other area, whether in Wisconsin or any other place in the U.S.? I would like to know if any of the other Durens in the U.S. can be traced back to the same Duren origins? There is a Place called Duren/Dueren Germany. I'm wondering if the family has any connections to that city? I know William/Wilhem had a son named Rev. Stephen Duren who was a Catholis priest, and a nephew whose name was Rev. Hubert Duren who also was a priest. Rev, Stephen was a world traveler who supposedly had traced the Duren family origins back several generations. Does any one know what became of his findings? Were they placed in a depository? Would there be an Archive close to the area that might house the information? I would love to find a copy of the information. My Grandpa was William F. Duren and his Grandpa was William/Wilhelm Duren. As many German customs name children and Grandchildren after the paternal male, Does anyone know if there are any Duren kin still carrying the given name of William, alive? A Son of William's was a Joseph Duren whose family lived closer to the Reedsburg area. I remember my mother corresponding with a Aunt Sophia who had great stories. I would like to verify if any of these stories are bonifided. Especially the ones about the Duren's coming from the Isle of Aaron in the Sea of Galway, by Ireland??? Anybody give me some clues? Thanks for listening. Anxious to hear from anyone. Marlene Andrews Shelley P.S. I would love to find out why the family came to Wisconsin? I've been working on this tree for lots of years. I'm glad to see there is finally a Richland co. list with which to connect. Are there any on-line research facilities available in the area?
My grandmother, Bessie Mae Smith b. 5 Aug 1888 Baraboo or Merrimac, Sauk, WI d. 24 May 1971 Madison, WI m. 21 Jun 1911, Merrimac, WI John Alexander Gale b. 1887 Kendall, Monroe, WI d. 16 Apr 1923 IL. Bessie Mae was a school teacher and family tradition states that she taught at an Indian School in WI. I am assuming this would have been in the Merrimac area. Is there any way to find out about her years of teaching at this Indian School? John & Bessie moved to Nelson, Lee, IL sometime before Mar 1913 when there first child was born there. She taught at Nelson School for 50 years and John worked for the RR. TIA Mikki Judge jjudge2127@aol.com

Hello, In the 1850s, there seems to have been in influx of people from Erie Co, PA, to Sauk Co, WI. While I have no idea why, I do know that various members if the FRANCIS family went there. Some stayed, some came back and some went back again. My gggrandmother, Hannah Francis Coburn, was b. 15 Apr 1856, Baraboo(according to the spelling on her 2nd marr. cert), Sauk, WI. Ransom Francis and the parents of Charles Cole also went there. If anyone has any information on any of these families, I should appreciate knowing and am willing to share what I have. I am especially interested in the COLE family as Hannah's mother, Henrietta, was a Cole and married to Luther Francis. I have no information whatsoever on her Cole line. But a copy of a letter I received of Almira Lawrence Francis' correspondence states the Luther Francis and Charles Cole's parents went to WI together. Thanks for any help, Cheri Nolen hungypsy@erie.net
Hi everyone, I'm new to this list and I'm hoping someone can help me solve a mystery. For the past few years I have been researching the Livingston branch of my family tree (mostly in New York State). I was at a library in a small town one day and came across "The Joseph Livingston Bible Records". This was like finding a gold mine for me. Now for the mystery. It was "Contributed by Miss Dorris M. Berring of Reedsburg, Wisconsin". No one from this family moved west to Wisconsin and I can't find out who Miss Berring was or who she was working for. Unfortunately I don't think I will be able thank Miss Berring for her work. On the S.S. Death Index there is a Dorris Berring (June 1897-July 1976) from Reedsburg, WI. I'm wondering if anyone remembers Miss Berring or who she work for (Genealogy Society?, Historical Society?). I can't understand how she got all this information on a New York family while living in Wisconsin (this was before computers). Any help in solving this little mystery would be appreciated. Thank you !! Ed
