Thank you John. I got one e-mail back from someone and they wanted $15.00 per hour plus copy cost. I can't afford that as I am on a fixed income. I believe he got Land from the government. I would also like to have copies of any other records found on Isaac or his family. Isaac was a Quaker. Please let me know Thanks Evelyn in CA

The History of Reedsburg and the Upper Baraboo Valley has information about Austin Seeley and his wife who came to Reedsburg in January, 1849. Morris E. Seeley is listed as moving to Reedsburg also in 1849. I happen to have copies of some of the pages of the History of Reedsburg that mention Seeley. The Historical Society has a copy of the entire book. Let me know if these are the Seeley's that you are looking for. Regards, Colleen

Sue, If you don't find what you need at your local library, the State Historical Society of Wisconsin has microfilm of just about all the newspapers in Wisconsin, and they participate in interlibrary loan. I live in CT and obtained microfilm of the Sauk City Pionier Presse (in German) from them through my local library. Hope this helps, Kathy Lenerz

Kathy, Thanks for the advice. I asked the librarian in the genealogy department and she has sent requests for the obits. Sue
No, the Baraboo News Republic is not a weekly paper. It is a daily paper still being published Monday through Saturday but has gone by other names as well as there were other papers, Baraboo Daily News, New Republic, Baraboo Republic, Baraboo Weekly News (news came out of the daily papers) and there was also a Baraboo Evening News. Also during that time, off & on, there was a Sauk County Democrat and it also went by various names. During the turn of the century there were up to 4 papers published in Baraboo. North Freedom was also covered by the Reedsburg Free Press and the Reedsburg Times. Sue, Are you going to the Baraboo Library? If so they have an index of all the obits marriages etc, for the various papers. Baraboo Republic,Baraboo News, and Baraboo News Republic are the names that come to mind. articles I have: 1888- Baraboo Republic; 1926-Baraboo Daily News; 1938-Baraboo News Republic. Kathy, No. I'm in Florida so will be going to our local library which is supposed to also have a very extensive genealogy section of the whole US. Thanks for you info Sue
I don't believe I forgot to include that it's the Baraboo/North Freedom area of Sauk County I need newspaper names for. Guess I need another cup of coffee. Thanks, Sue
Does anyone know what newspaper was in operation in the following years. I put all the years because I'm not sure if the same paper would have been in operation for each time period. I'm going to the library tomorrow and wanted to know which newspapers I need to search for obituaries. 1892 1919 1920 1927 1930 1933 1935 Thanks Sue
Well, I have another mystery to unravel regarding my Haskin, Brandt, Rabuck families of Sauk Co. Donna Lange sent this: "Ravina Lamora Haskin, wife of Frederick Rabuck, born 14 June 1844 in Indiana, died 26 Aug 1872, Sauk Co, WI. 1860 census LaValle Twp. Sauk Co., WI F. Rabuck, age 20, born in Germany L. Rabuck, age 16, born in Indiana Bellfine Rabuck, age 5 mos., born in Wis. ( I believe this is actually Delphine Lamora Rabuck who married Charles Wesley Lanphere in SD) Lenora Amelia Rabuck, died 15 Jan 1865, Sauk Co., WI., age 3y, 2 dys, daughter of F. and R.L. Rabuck" Frederick Rabuck is brother to my Sophia Marie Rabuck who married Frederick Brandt. To further complicate this line, Wallace Rowland Haskin, son of Samuel and Annie Haskin, married Mary Sophia Brandt, daughter of Frederick and Sophia Marie (Rabuck) Brandt. YIKES!!! I am trying to determine if Frederick Rabuck's wife, Ravina Lamora could be a daughter of Samuel and Annie (Woodling) Haskin. I am caught in a tangle. Would there be any records available that would give me the parents' names of Ravina Haskin. Any help appreciated. Dee Yeager dyeager@televar.com
I hope someone out there can give me a hand in finding my Haskin(s) and Woodling families. 1860 Census, Ironton, Sauk Co: S. Haskins, age 40, b. NY Ann Haskins, age 43, b. PA E.R. Haskins, age 14, b. Ind. W.R.. Haskins, age 6, b. Ind. 1870 Census, LaValle, Sauk Co: Samuel Haskin, age 50, HH, Dry Goods Ann Haskin, age 53, wife Wallace R., age 16, son Nancy Ann Bailey, age 17, adopted August Meyer, age 14, adopted Elisabeth Meyer, age 6, adopted 1850 Clark Co., IN shows a Samuel J. Haskins as being in incarcerated in the state prison for grand larceny. This could be Ann's husband as the age and place of birth is correct. But I can find no evidence of Ann living in that county in the census. I wonder where she was at? The E.R. listed in the 1860 census is Edwin R. Haskin., The W. R. is my gg-grandfather, Wallace Rowland Haskin who married Mary Sophia Brandt. They all made the move to Antelope County, though at different times, and are all buried there. Samuel and Annie moved to Antelope County, Nebraska around 1873. Both are buried at Millerboro Cemetery. If the death age is correct on their markers then I have the following dates for them: Samuel J. Haskin b. 20 May 1820, NY; d. 7 Jan 1892, Antelope Co., NE Annie Woodling, b. 26 Dec. 1817, PA; d. 1 Feb. 1882, Antelope Co., NE Ann is listed variously as Ann, Anna and Annie. Her grave marker has her middle initial as "R". This is the only place an R shows up. I have found an IGI Record and the LDS website for Anna Louella Woodling married Samuel Jenny Haskin 17 Oct. 1841 <south bend> St. Joseph County, Indiana. I don't know if this is correct as I can not find a marriage record for them in St. Joseph County, IN. Any help appreciated. Dee Yeager dyeager@televar.com
Surnames: KNABEL KNOEBEL KNAEBEL KNOBEL MAERTZ Submitter: Bill Korn (w.korn@worldnet.att.net) Date: 24 Jun 1999 Any information regarding Friedolin Knabel & Gertrude Maertz who lived in Sauk City and gave birth to Anna Mary Knabel on 15 Dec 1871. Knabel has various spelling, i.e. Knoebel, Knaebel & Knobel.
Hi gang, I heard from Kathy Waddell from Sauk County Historical Society and she concurred with what I thought and some of you also, that is, The contracted date, or the later date of the two, was the actual marriage date. I want to thank everyone for their help and posts in response to my inquiry. You are all a great bunch here! Thanks again. Murray in AZ
