Sue, My Reedsburg names are Pelton and Wakefield. Is the Hahn any kin to the Dr. Hahn who was an eye doctor in Reedsburg? He and my dad were good friends. Went fishing together and when he went to Florida, Dad would make him lures to try out on the sailfish and marlin. We kids all got our glasses from him. I was born and raised in Baraboo. Kathy
Hi Colleen, Sorry I can't help you at all, but I was wondering what names you're researching in the Reedsburg area? I'm researching Westphal, Burmester, Reinecke, Schultz, Baumgarten and Hahn, just to name a few. If you get an answer about the churches in that area, I'd love to hear too! Thanks, Sue WISAUK-D-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > Subject: > > WISAUK-D Digest Volume 99 : Issue 39 > > Today's Topics: > #1 [WISAUK] Baptisimal records ["Colleen Boose" <boose@win.bright.] > > Administrivia: > To unsubscribe from WISAUK-D, send a message to > > WISAUK-D-request@rootsweb.com > > that contains in the body of the message the command > > unsubscribe > > and no other text. Would anyone know of the names of the churches that would have been in the Reedsburg, Wisconsin area during the years of 1848 - 1869??? And, if they would have baptismal records? Regards, Colleen
I am interested in the history of Sauk county, and am doing genealogical work on my husband's family. I am looking for more leads on the family of William A. Hutchinson,b.abt.1855 in WI,wife Lydia L.Nogle b.abt.1861 in WI. Their children,as identified on the 1910 Sauk county census, were: Louis (actual spelling Lewis) LaVerne Hutchinson (b.1888) Ivan Hutchinson age 1 year (b.1909,or 08) and one child alive but not in the home. We are having a hard time locating this family, because aside from the 1910 census, they only other place we found them was Pittsville for Lewis's birth in Wood county.I need to know how to find William and Lydia's birthplace,as no document I have says where in WI they were born.I do not know where or when either of them died. Any help on this would be appreciated ! I would also love to hear from anyone related to this family. Heather
I would like to establish contact with any descendents of FRANZ WILLIAM ZIMMERMANN, either through his first wife ANNA CATHERINA SCHROEDER or his second ANNA CATHERINA SIEGER, all likely born in Sauk City or Sauk County from 1855 to 1883. Franz was a Civil War Veteran and immigrated to Sauk County with his two sisters: Anna Catherina the wife of OTTO REINER COENEN and Anna Maria the wife of THEODORE SCHMITZ, both families also of Sauk County or adjacent Dane County. Brian Porter
I have just discovered that I have a family who were living from at least the 1870's to the early 1900's in Sauk County by the name of Michael and Melinda Riley Vansky. Is anyone else searching for them. I have not yet had the opportunity to search the census, but know that they lived just a few miles east of the Vernon/Sauk County line. thanks Gayle gayle1@wheatstate.com
Hi all! By popular demand I have created a Wisconsin Surname Locator page on ALHN WI. The pages hold such information as what surname is being researched, what county it is being researched in, who is researching it, and a link to that researcher's email address. Please stop by and check it out or add your names at: http://www.usgennet.org/~alhnwius/WI_index.html - scroll down to Wisconsin Surname Locator and click on that button. There are well over 700 surnames listed there now and more being worked on as you read this. Hello new Wisconsin list! My name is Lisa Byington and I live in NY. Genealogy is my main hobby, as well as collecting old photos. I have lots of Wisconsin Byington/ Boynton history to share, as it is my hubby's family. Is anyone out there researching the surname Tuttle? I bought an old cabinet card at an antique store of a bouncing baby girl. I estimate it to have been taking in the 1880's. The back gives her name as Miriam Eloise Tuttle, and the date as Sept. (no year given). I would love to see her go back to her family. I'm not looking to make money on these things, just what I paid for her and shipping costs to send her home. BTW...I was in Wisconsin for the first time a few weeks ago....It's a lovely state full of very friendly people. Lisa B

I couldn.t agree more. The Sauk County Historical Society is one of the best, especially Kathy Waddell, who has helped me a great deal. She looks beyond the obvious, when doing look-ups. Ken Whitcomb/Honolulu, Hawaii
Based on the postings of the last few weeks and comments regarding the Sauk County Historical Society and its research opportunities, I would like to make a few observations from my perspective: 1. Time involved in research. Genealogy, for the most part, is not instant gratification. Good research takes time and patience and since the Historical Society is dependent on volunteer help for a good part of their research, it's amazing that they get as much done as they do. 2. Their charges are very modest compared to other so called "professionals', many of whom are not very reputable. In some cases they do only generic things that you could easily do yourself and charge big bucks. They also in many cases don't deliver on their time promises, or don't deliver at all. 3. My personal experience with Kathy Waddell and the volunteers at the Sauk County Historical Society has been 100% positive and I have noting but praise for the quality and cost of their work. If anything, they err on undercharging. My suggestion to anyone who is looking to do research through the Historical Society is to be specific on the the data you are searching; join the Historical Society (the cost is reasonable) to get the benefit of the Member's rates; break your requests into reasonable segments so as not to overwhelm them; be patient! Thanks again to the Historical Society and the entire staff for the good work that they do and the services they provide. Ross Gaetzke Walker Milwaukee

Dear Listers, My sincere apologies for going on the warpath (former "Thunderbird"s do that). There was a misunderstanding, which, I believe has been straightened out. I certainly did not intend to infer anything mean. I just had not gotten a response from her. I now have and have sent her copies of our past e-mails, which should adjust everything. I have no problem waiting for the information, I just misunderstood her note. 40 strokes with a wet noodle for me! Kathy P.
Good Evening List Members, I would like to also give my vote of praise for Kathy Waddell. She has done a wonderful job trying to help everyone that she possibly can. She helped me in researching my ancestors, and for that I will be forever grateful. Keep up the good work Kathy, we need more people like you. Birde mailto:Birde@bigfoot.com
The Sauk County Historical Society gives a $5.00 per hour break for our members. We charge $10.00 per hour for members and $15.00 per hour for non members. Yep, we are surely slow. This summer I am the only one doing research and during the summer, we get a lot of genealogist visit our local history library so when they are here, I need to help them. I'm doing the best I can. But Murray is right. Ask specific questions. You can ask all you want at first, we'll do the best we can. But if you only have one or two and the information is "in-house", we'll get those out immediately. Courthouse searches are done once a week for birth, death, and marriage information. Courthouse land record searches are done once a month (they are very time consuming). Census records are found at our public library and are not indexed so we also do them once a month. Obituaries can be looked up on newspapers but if only the year is given, it will take an eternity to find them. The more specific the better. People who ask others to do research for them, regardless of who is doing it, have to understand that when you find someone who is willing to go all our, others have found the same person as well and are asking for the moon. Well, sometimes we are able to give the moon, sometimes we can't get past the launch site. Also remember too, if you have been doing your own genealogy, you know how time consuming it can be and how it can totally encompass your life. Well, in may cases, for those who can't get to Sauk County to do it themselves, I am doing the same, time consuming job. Only I am doing it for dozens and dozens of people at the same time. Thank you, John and Murray for the votes of confidence. I love my job! I have over 700 family names being researched and cross referenced in Sauk County. My volunteers return in September. I know I will NEVER be caught up but I hope to be closer anyway. Everything I do is genealogy driven. It doesn't help that there are not enough hours in the day. I am also in the process of indexing and cataloging everything in our local history library so we can help researchers quickly as well as possible put things on rootsweb in the future. I am also on a committee that is beginning to redo the out of print Cemetery Inscription books so they will be updated and available. If I was a full time genealogist, I might be quicker with responses. But I am the archivist for the Sauk County Historical Society and genealogy is only one of my hats, my favorite one, but only one. Thanks to all those I have been able to help. Everyone family researched has thoroughly enriched my life and I hope to continue to help others for a long time to come. Families make Sauk County richer, past, present and future. Kathy, They are not real fast. What Kathy told me was whenever they get a request it goes in a file in the order they come in. When we discussed it about a year ago there were 67 people ahead of me. Just be sure you ask all your questions at the same time and be specific...otherwise you may get a couple answered and then go back to the end of the pile. It is best if you can get Kathy to do it herself. John and Evelyn, Kathy from the Sauk Co. Historical Soc. offered to research for me at $15.00 per hour, told her I would pay for 2 hrs., as that is my home town. I have not heard from her since. Guess I will have to go down there myself. If I do, perhaps I can look up for you, Evelyn. Kathy (Anderson) Parkinson (b. Baraboo!)
Evelyn, The historical Society has two fees, $10 for inhouse research and $15 for outside research. They do have some volunteers, but they are very busy as you can imagine. I have had quite a bit of research done there and I found it worth paying for. However, if time will allow, you can request for a volunteer only. If you have just one or two things at a time you will get it done faster. I hope this helps. Kathy is very helpful and I have spoken to her many times. I too am on a fixed income, but was helping a cousin finish her book which a copy is now there. I hope this helps. If you need some outside work done and right away, Email Donna LANGE. She is a genealogist that works for herself. She was also very helpful to me. I have forgotten her rates, sorry.
