    1. Re: [WISAUK] Re surname Warren
    2. Hi Christina, have you found him in the 1870 census that would indicate where his parents were born? I have a William Warren, b 1815, Nova Scotia, who came through New York and spent a few years in IL before moving to OR. I have been unable to identify any of his siblings. CiCi Morse

    3. Jeanette, We have found obituaries in 'The Sauk County News PDS' for 1905. Not sure of what dates they were publishing, but we made copies at the library in Prairie Du Sac. The reason that I am so vague on this is because someone else collected the information. Karon Lodi, Wisconsin

    1. [WISAUK] Resources in Sauk Cty - Old Newspapers on Microfilm????
    2. Jeannette L. Schwarz
    3. My mom and I have been doing some heavy research in Sauk County the last two weeks with MUCH success. We located the grave of my great-grandmother and gg-grandparents in the Kingston Cemetery. We also found wonderful records at St. John's Church in Prairie du Sac. In researching at the Register of Deeds office we found the names of my ggg-grandparents!!! Although we are thrilled to find all these legal documents, we would like to add obituaries, wedding announcements and birth announcements to our research documentation. Many of the relatives were based in Prairie du Sac, Honey Creek or Baraboo....can anyone tell me which newspapers would have covered that area around the late 1800's and early 1900's???? Would the library in Baraboo have this on microfilm or is it elsewhere? Also, we had 10 minutes to stop in at the Historical Society today and they were giving a tour to school kids, so we didn't get a chance to talk to anyone there. What resources are available at the Historical Society that might be beneficial? Thanks in advance for any and all help!! 1. [WISAUK] Does anyone know these surnames...
    2. Christina Lynn Dzioba
    3. Hello list! maybe someone out there can help me with my research. I cant find much on Harrison Warren born 1822 in NY or OH (the census conflicts). He married a Martha (I am assuming Lloyd since an older James Lloyd lived with them for 30 years...) They had children Henry, Truman, Charlotte, George, Julia, Chloe, Clara, Fred and Frank some of whom were born in Woodstock IL and some in WI. He moved to WI in 1857 settling near lime ridge. The family is not mentioned in any books that I know of and most of what I have is passed down. Christina I am also researching the following surnames in Sauk Co: All, Burgess, Settle, Hurd, Brown, Costerisan, Tyler, Coley, Aton, Sheldon, bethke, bingham, hunt, warren, corson, sebring, thompson, Thomas, soole, Johnson,Bugnon, hunt, noble, Baird, Laird, and many others...

    1. [WISAUK] meaning of "emptings"
    2. Would anyone have a clue to the meaning of the word "emptings." I run across the word in an 1872 diary. The author of the diary refers to the word many times in relation to making bread. She mentions she has to "set the emptings." Looking in a search engine, the closest is a substitue for eggs. However, I am looking for more specific details like what the ingredients may be or how it is made. Barbara

    3. An index of people contained in the 1880 "History of Sauk County, Wisconsin" is available at the following location: <ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/wi/> Scroll down to the Sauk directory and click, then click on the biography directory, and then click on 1880ndex.txt and you will be able to view the list. I decided to give you the main directory because you can then access information from other counties also. I hope this helps. 3. I could use some help from all you Sauk County historians. I have in my possession a ribbon that my grandfather had in his childhood treasure chest. The front side of the ribbon is red with the following: UNITED COLONY NO. 553 B.R.F.F. LAVALLE, WIS. The backside of the ribbon is black with the following: IN MEMORIAM UNITED COLONY NO. 553 B.R.F.F. LAVALLE, WIS. Hanging below the ribbon is a medal with the B.R.F.F. lettering and a beaver on a log, followed with "JUSTITIA NON EST NEGANDA". Does anyone have an idea as to what this medal may represent? Thanks, Fawn
