Hi, I'm brand new to the Sauk list. I found an E. Bert TRIMPEY listed in the STANDARD HISTORY OF SAUK COUNTY, VOL. II, by Harry Ellsworth COLE, 1918, p. 706 I'd love to touch base with anyone who has information on him or his descendents. He was born in Somerset Co., PA in 1878, of immigrants from *probably* Hanover, Ger. We lost him on this end, and I'm just wondering how/why he got to WI. Linda Marker Somerset Co., PA
Looking for information on the surname NEWELL. If anyone has a copy of the "History of Sauk County" could I ask you to look on the following pages and e-mail to me the information found? Pages -- 698, 743 & 818. Thank you in advance for your time and assistance. Colleen Hager City, WI e-mail: boose@win.bright.net
Lydia (Young) Page died around 1885 in SD but the newspapers in the Sauk County area were notified of her death. I need a definite date of death (even the year would help) Any information greatly appreciated. The Pages, Lydia, husband Salon and children: Hosea, Currier, and Jane were early settlers in Sauk County. After the death of Currier's wife and Lydia's husband Salon (death date needed as well) Lydia and Currier and his family went further west to Beotia, Spink Co. SD. Thanks! In 1891 the Baraboo News Republic was in existance and still is today. The public library and the State Historical Society have the papers on microfilm. The newspaper would refer you to our Society for research (we charge $15.00 per hour). Hello List Members, Could anyone tell me if they know if there is a newspaper around the Baraboo area called "The Baraboo Republic"? I am trying to find a old obituary from 1891 and was told that the newspaper in that area, at the time, was the one above. Hoping that someone might know about this newspaper and maybe if it is still around or has a new name. Any help would really be appreciated. Merry Christmas To All Birde mailto:Birde@bigfoot.com
Thank you, Donna, for the census. Were the sexes listed in this census. I am curious as to N.N. Could this be initials of a name or stand for "no name" I ask because I do not have an N.N. listed as a child of Fred and Sophia (Rabuck) Brandt. Thank you also for the W. Brant/Brandt. Not sure if he is related to my Frederick or not but the one below is definitely my family. Dee Donna Lange wrote: > Brant F. 30 Germany > Sophia 24 Germany > Sophia 2 Wisconsin > N. The other Brant in Marston Twn. is Brant W. 51 Wurtenburg, Germany Regina 51 Wurtenburg, Germany Caroline 14 Wurtenburg, Germany Donna
Brant F. 30 Germany Sophia 24 Germany Sophia 2 Wisconsin N. N. 6/12 Wisconsin I will have to do some digging to find the other one. Donna Lange
The Reedsburg and Baraboo Libraries will not be open December 23, 24, 25, 26. The Register of Deeds (where vital records are kept) will be open only December 23 from 8-4:30. The historical society will only be available by appointment on December 23rd. Your best bet is the Register of Deeds!! Good Luck! Hi everyone, I'm so excited, I'll be in Sauk County from December 23 til the 26th!! I'm wondering if I'll have more luck at the Reedsburg Library, the Sauk County Court House, or the Historical Society, trying to find vital records for my ancestors there? I live in New Mexico so am trying to do as much as possible while I'm there. The records I need are in Washington Township, Westfield Township, Loganville, Sandusky, Hillpoint, etc. Thanks for any help or advice!! Sue, What surnames are you looking for?
Hello, Contact Kathy at the Historical Society. She has done some research for me and can help. Joy
Does anyone on this list have access to the 1860 Sauk County, WI census. I am looking for two families who show up on the census index. They are F. Brant of Ironton and W. Brant of Marston. Any help appreciated. Dee Yeager dyeager@televar.com

Colleen asked: > Could anyone tell me if Reedsburg (or surrounding area) had a newspaper that > was printed from 1850 - 1880 - what the name of the paper would be and if it > is available on microfiche through interlibrary loan? The State Historical Society of Wisconsin has the second largest collection of newspapers in the country (after the Library of Congress). If anyone has the Reedsburg newspaper from that time period, it would most likely be them. See the UW catalog for specifics on the Reedsburg newspaper(s) of the time: http://madcat.library.wisc.edu/ They lend much of their microfilm collection through interlibrary loan. Check with your local library for procedures and possible fees. Hope this helps, Kathy Lenerz

Could anyone tell me if Reedsburg (or surrounding area) had a newspaper that was printed from 1850 - 1880 - what the name of the paper would be and if it is available on microfiche through interlibrary loan? Thank you. Colleen Hager City, WI

Would the library in Baraboo have this on microfilm or is it > elsewhere? Jeannette, The Sauk City Pionier Presse, published in German, covered the late 1800s and early 1900s. It is now called the Sauk Prairie Star. It is available on microfilm at the State Historical Society in Madison and the Sauk City library. It may also be at the Prairie du Sac library. I've gone through the paper in depth from 1902-1910. They always had a "social" column for Prairie du Sac and Honey Creek that included obituaries. The obituaries I found in that time period were extremely helpful and interesting. I also looked for an obituary in 1879, but they didn't seem to have them then. So I'm not sure when they would have started publishing obits. Hope this helps, Kathy Lenerz
Harrison L Warren is reported to have been born in NY in 1822 in one census and in OH in another. Martha his wife was born in OH. Other than that he seems to have disappeared until he showed up in WI. I will probably have to take a road trip to McHenry Co IL to see if I can find him and his children. I have no idea who his parents were or if he had siblings (which I am assuming he did since the warrens seem rather prolific) I will have to check out Nova Scotia then to see if there is a connection. I do however have a william H warren (supposedly one of Harrisons children) died feb 20 1891 who is buried in Oak hill cemetery in North Freedom. Could he have been named after an uncle?
