Susan, There is an Ochsner Family history book available at our Society for $7.00 with $2.00 shipping and handling. This Ochsner family goes back to Switzerland and there is history back about 400 years plus. This Ochsner family also was from Honey Creek which is just north of Sauk City. Unfortunately, your Ochsners are not listed in this family tree but I could be missing something since your Ochsners are from Sauk City. As far as I know there was only one Ochsner family in Sauk County and they were all related. Maybe the book could give you clues. It is 85 pages long. If you're interested, contact me. I lost my Hall brothers between 1890 and 1905. All I know is that on one census toward the end of the century, Charles was in the County poor house( or farm). Neither brother has a death record in Sauk Co, so I was wondering if there are records from the poor house as to who took charge of Charles when he left, and hopefully where he/she lived. Charles was born 1855, Reuben in 1845 to Truman B Hall and Fanny(wood)Hall. Fanny is buried in North Freedom, everyone else vanished. I could really use a clue on ANY of these people. Truman B. HALL b. 1811 CT Reuben HALL b. 1845 OH Charles HALL b. 1855 OH I am descended from their sister Esther HALL who md. in Sauk Co. John Thomson of Dellona(Son of Amos and Mahala), and moved to Minn. in the 1880s.
Wisconsin Dells is in the Baraboo area, which is wall to wall tourist traps...everything from water parks, including the largest indoor park I've ever seen, to 96 hole miniature golf courses with volcanoes and log flumes over head, to bungie jumping etc....Baraboo also has the Ringling Bros. circus museum, which we visited last summer. They have live performances 3 or 4 times a day, and everymorning they parade the elephants down to the Baraboo River to take a bath. Kathy, My husband's Ochsner side of the family were in Sauk City, Sauk Co. I have some info on the family but not a great deal. Grandfather Washington Henry Ochsner was the son of John Jacob Ochsner of Switzerland and Elizabeth (Bretch/Brecht?) of Ohio. They had three other children: Benjamin, Emma, and Edward D. John Jacob was the son of Leonhard Ochsner and Anna (Schlemp/Schlemf?), both of Switzerland. Susan
Hi Everyone! I was just told that Barboo area is where a lot of amusement parks around? Is that true? I had some ancestors living in that area and some guys flew in LA from Sauk County, WI and I asked them about Baraboo. All they said that a lot of amusements going on in that area? Charles

Is anyone doing look-ups from STANDARD HISTORY OF SAUK COUNTY, VOL. II, BY HARRY ELLSWORTH COLE, 1918? If so, there is a William Rose listed on page 949. I would be interested in this transcription if available. Thank you. I inadvertently deleted the messages that told us how to get into the web site for this book's index of the names mentioned in the book. Can you please repost those messages or advise me of the web address for this index?? Thanks Ann Schar (Lavalie)
Joy, I just clicked on the link and had no problem. I could send you the index as an attachment privately, meaning not on the WISAUK list. Let me know if you would like me to do this. Dear Louise Leedy, thanks for your offer to lookup people in the Standard History of Sauk County (1918). Could you kindly check for Martin Barrington and Patrick Loughney Martin, b. 1833 in Ireland, came to Wisconsin via Canada, with wife Cecelia Loughney Barrington and some children, probably between 1866 and 1870. In 1877, he owned a farm in Ironton (NW corner of Section 17). Patrick Loughney, father of Cecelia, came with his family from Ireland, via Canada, arriving in Sauk Co. in 1864. In 1877 Patrick had a farm not far from Martin's in Ironton (SE corner of Section 16). Martin was my ggrandfather, Patrick my gggrandfather. My grandfather was Edward Peter Barrington, son of Martin, b. June 29, 1872 in Ironton. Patrick Loughney died at a relatively early age, 1874 in Ironton, but his wife Anna O'Malley Loughney lived to Feb. 17, 1904, dying in Reedsburg, Sauk Co. Any further information you can find in the history, especially about when Martin and his family arrived in Sauk Co. and their life there, would be very much appreciated. Thank you very much for this help! Jocelyn Harvey
Andie, This is a reply that I gave to someone on the list in October 1999. Follow the directions below and you will find an index of the names in the book. This may help you in deciding as to whether or not you would like to purchase this book. An index of people contained in the 1880 "History of Sauk County, Wisconsin" is available at the following location: <ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/wi/> Scroll down to the Sauk directory and click, then click on the biography directory, and then click on 1880ndex.txt and you will be able to view the list. I decided to give you the main directory because you can then access information from other counties also. I hope this helps. Help!!! I can not open the webpage, must not be a complete address. I also can't find the index. Joy
Will there be an index posted of the Salk History Book on the net? My mother-in-law was born in 1905 in Prairie Du Sac and is still living but I can not afford the book unless it contains a tad of information on the family. Her father was an artist and painted the wagons for the circus. Andie bunnyden@sunrisenet.com
