    3. Mr. Crandell: I was in attendance (from northern Minnesota) at the ceremony for your ancestors as a member of ARCH as well as my 3 year old son, who enjoyed it greatly. Perhaps the local history room at Brewer Library might be a good repository for copies of your video for future generations to enjoy? I was going to speak to you that day, but the rain made it impossible to wait.... The newspaper mentioned that it was not known which battles your ancestors fought in. Have you sent for their service records or pension papers? Also the regimental histories at the State Historical Society of Wisconsin in Madison may be of some help. We also found the Series 2200 documents at SHSW a great help for Civil War research. Although they may not leave the premises or be photocopied, the actual records are available for research (I believe on the 3rd floor archives room?). These included daily muster rolls, court martial records, hospital records, payroll, acoutrements taken....you name it. It was interesting to note (for us) that one person who later served in RC as GAR post commander (and has no living descendants, lest you think I'm tattling) had been court martialed, fined, and left with his musket and acoutrements without paying for them!! It is difficult and time consuming to research these, especially with no photocopying, but well worth the few weeks it took us. Even though the regimental histories gave the lists of battles of each unit, it was amazing how many soldiers were "out" for many of these, in the hospital with some illness. So we were able to determine nearly a day-by-day record for our ancestors by examining these records. One other resource for you might be the State Veteran's Museum near the capitol in Madison. They had many books for sale on researching WI vets in the Civil War. Incidentally, I was delivered at RC Hospital in 1959 by a Dr. Crandall! Hope you enjoyed your Richland County stay!
