    3. Lynne, I was told by an uncle, who is in his nineties, that the original poor house for Richland Cty. stood near Spring Hill Cemetery. I heard of this about three years ago. I don't know the name but I was under the impression that the house there was for Civil War veterans and their children. Let me do some checking on this . ----- Original Message ----- From: "lalvord" <lalvord@msn.com> To: <WIRICHLA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, June 02, 2002 9:14 PM Subject: [WIRICHLA] Alms house in 1901 > I recently obtained a death certificate for a relative and discovered that he died at the Alms House in Richland Co in 1901. I assume that the Alms house was another name for the poor house. Is that correct? He had a wife and children and had had a least a farm, so I was surpised to learn that he had died at the Alms house. Does anyone have any information on the Alms House? Could it by any chance have functioned as a nursing home does today for those who are chronically ill and their families are unable to care for them. I would appreciate any information relating to the Alms house. > > Thanks, > Lynne > > > ==== WIRICHLA Mailing List ==== > Search the list archives: > http://searches2.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl - put WIRICHLA for > the name of the list >
