Elizabeth-age 13 William-age 11 Abiel-age 7 Robert age 2 They lived in Buena Vista twp. Does anyone out there remember a Bohmann Creamery in Richland Center? I remember an Elm Grove Diary and I believe a Pine Grove Diary that delivered milk to the door. Frank Bohmann owned the meat packing plant in R.C. in the 40's and 50's but I cannot recall a creamery. Thanks, Gloria

Chapter 20 - History of Crawford County - The Medical Profession is now online: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wicrawfo/chap20.htm Part of this chapter mentions an early medical experiment performed at Fort Crawford. It also mentions something I'd previously forgotten to mention - that a future President spent some time there. Tim

Hi list! I will unsubscribe properly to the computer, but before I did that I wanted to let you all know that I am moving to Washington State from Wisconsin this week so I need to TEMPORARILY unsubscribe. I will be back on the list very soon I hope. Thanks for all of your help during the time I have been on the list. I look forward to making many great connections in the future. In deciding what chapter to transcribe next, I thought I'd see just how far I've come with the transcription and just how much was left. The Crawford history is approximately 693 pages in length. As best I can tell at 4 AM, I've done 141 pages and 11 of 37 chapters since the first of the year. This leaves 26 chapters and 552 pages. The Richland history in the latter part of the book was closer to 600 pages in length and took 20 months to complete. My goal is to beat that time line for Crawford County's history. Tim
Regarding Chapter 6 I came across some words that where either unfamiliar to me or that I wished further explanation for. Here is what I found out and thought I'd pass along: There is mention at one point of playing Pleyel's hymn - so am including this as an explanation for when you get to that point in the chapter: http://home.earthlink.net/~threelemmings/mm/pleyel.html Lyrics Written by Brother David Vinton, 1816 Solemn strikes the funeral chime! Notes of our departing time, As we journey here below, On a pilgrimage of woe. Brothers, now indulge a tear, For mortality is here! See how wide her trophies wave, O'er the slumbers of the grave. Here another guest we bring, Seraphs of celestial wing, To our funeral altar come, Waft a friend and brother home. Lord of all, below, above, Fill our hearts with Truth and Love. As dissolves our earthly tie, Take us to Thy Lodge on High. ************* calumet SYLLABICATION: cal·u·met PRONUNCIATION: kly-mt, -mt, kly-mt NOUN: A long-stemmed sacred or ceremonial tobacco pipe used by certain Native American peoples. This was also translated as a peace pipe. There is also a county in Wisconsin by this name. ******** Lastly there was reference to the Indian placing tobacco and kinnikinnik - which turned out to be an assortment of smokeable items such as sumac leaves. So this turned also into a learning experience for me! Tim
Chapter 6 - History of Crawford County - The Winnebago War is now online: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wicrawfo/chap6.htm Somewhat like one of the chapters in the History of Richland County in that it presents a real and graphic picture of a couple of incidents - one a battle the other a home invasion. Wonder what the folks of that day would think of the modern Winnebago wars travelers face upon our highways each summer? Tim
In addition to the Rohovitz monument that was damaged in the vandalism... additional names on the damaged monuments are Hoyt (2 stones) died 1879 Michel died 1906 Kligora died 1934 Parkan died 1904 These are all tall pillar shaped monuments tiped over, the tops are broken off - but the main portion seems undamaged.

from the Muscoda Progressive, July 12, 2001, page 1 Fallen Angel She has marked the grave of Eldora Rohovitz, who died April 14, 1916, at the tender age of eight. But last week, like a number of older stones in the Muscoda and St. John's Cemeteries, she fell, the victim of apparent vandals, wings shattered, but still clutching the flowers. Some of the monuments that were broken off have stood for more than 100 years. It is thought the damage was done Thursday night of last week. Local police counted 11 damaged monuments. It has been pointed out by a member of the cemetery board that some of the stones that were damaged are very heavy and the vandalism of them could pose a danger to the perpetrators of the damage.
