Judy, You were only one among millions playing the virus game....me among them...who certainly knew better. I really got tired of berating myself, so yelled at my computer..."Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead". I scared my five dogs, and a couple of grandchildren but it was worth it, I sure felt better. dee
I have a firewall now. Something we all need I think. Why can't someone design a virus that will do something good for a change. And why is there no law against such malicious behavior? Just wanted to express real gratitude for those that took the time to say, "What you did, the mistake you made, isn't so bad." Sandy, Adam and Patti made me feel so much better about my terrible goof re: the alleged SULFNBK.EXE virus. Given my history, this should not have happened. I can only say that too much was happening in my life at the same time. Dealing with the possibility that my most beloved Wire Haired Fox Terrier, Sassy, could end up joining other of our much loved pets in pet heaven, while dealing with her seizures as a result of the anesthesia from surgery and no Vet available in our small North Woods town, the roads not something anyone could safely travel, was only one of those things.... I should not have gotten on the internet as a means of distraction.... Again, I am sorry!
Hi Judy - You are OK!!......And, we are sorry to know about your doggy....We have a mixed breed - mostly American Eskimo, and he has seizures. We do have meds for him, but he still has them now and then. We feel so sorry for him, while one is taking its course........Hang in there - and, a Happy New Year to you and yours......Phyl in Reno ----- Original Message ----- From: "Judy Hansen" <sassy@newnorth.net> To: <WIRICHLA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, December 29, 2001 2:22 PM Subject: [WIRICHLA] Apology > Just wanted to express real gratitude for those that took the time to > say, "What you did, the mistake you made, isn't so bad." Very nice of Adam to say very well what could happen to any of us. We care - we want to protect - we warn - Sandy Stiemke
I wish all of you who forward viruses warning, etc. would check out the following web site FIRST to see if it's a HOAX or not: http://www.snopes2.com/. Click on "computers" and then "computer viruses" and then scroll down to "Virus Hoaxes & Realities" and you'll find out information on the "SULFNBK.EXE." There are other similar pages that tell whether something is a HOAX or not. Please, check it out before you forward! :-) Kris -----Original Message----- From: John Dvorak [mailto:j.w.dvorak@worldnet.att.net] Sent: Thursday, December 27, 2001 6:40 PM To: WIRICHLA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [WIRICHLA] [Fwd: Virus warning and instructions!] YOU GUYS! I hope you don't feel too badly about this hoax business. It isn't as though you set out to deceive anyone like the rats who initiated this in the first place! You were just trying to help us avoid problems. And I think just about everyone who ever went online has run into this and had to take something back. If anyone writes short-tempered emails just try to ignore them. As for taking out important systems by mistake, newer computers have protections built in. Mine is four years old and it won't let me delete the critical operations systems - no matter how hard I try. :) I, for one, appreciate your intentions. patti shultz > I am writing this with a very red face and a great deal of > embarassment! I am writing this with a very red face and a great deal of embarassment! My message of yesterday was in error in that SULFNBK.EXE is NOT a virus but IS a hoax. SULFNBK.EXE is a Microsoft Windows utility that is used to restore long file names, and should NOT be deleted. I am hoping that few of you deleted it, but if so, you will find instructions for repair at: http://vil.nai.com/vil/virusSummary.asp?virus_k=99084#VirusChar or try: wysiwyg://8/http://vil.nai.com/vil/virusSummary.asp If any of you sent this on to others, I suggest that you let them know about this as soon as possible. Again, I apologize and thank those of you who let me know that this is a hoax, NOT a virus.

it's a hoax going around. check your original windows files cdrom. It should be there as evidence that I am correct. Still doubtful? do a search for the filename on the internet. There are several sites about this out there. You have the time yet, Better check it out than delete a file that youwill need. as already indicated by one subscriber. Another source to check on these things is TruthorFiction.com It is on their start page today so must be really active. If you delete the file you are deleting a windows system file. Yes Kathy ! The Republican Observor is a weekly newspaper published on Wednesdays in Richland Center,Wi. I think it is called the Richland Observor today. When I was growing up in the Center in the 40's and 50's, I believe there were two papers published on a weekly basis . I believe the other was the the Democrat. And it was located near the old auditorium in the downtown of the Center.
