The Gunness family arrived in Ontario on two different ships. They arrived in 1818 and1819. They came over from Ireland, the Fermanagh area. The name seems to be of Scananavian origin. It appears that the Gunness/Gunniss/Gunnis families arrived in Ireland during the reign of William of Orange. There are a few decendants in Canada and the US. Also in Australia. There is a line in Michigan that joins up with ours back about 1850. If you have any questions I will try and help answer them. Patricia
