Surnames: BALDWIN, HUEY, VIERTEL Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DFC.2ACE/1661 Message Board Post: Oswald VIERTEL Obit printed in the Stevens Point Daily Journal, Wed May 22, 1940, Page 7 Oswald VIERTEL, age 42, a World War veteran, died unexpectedly this morning at the home of his brother, Ernest VIERTEL, Jr, with whom he had been making his home. Mr VIERTEL was born Dec 27, 1897 in Stevens Point to Mr and Mrs Ernest VIERTEL, Sr, of Park Ridge. He enlisted with Troop I in Stevens Point June 4, 1917, and served overseas for a year and four months with Battery E, 120th Field Artillery. He was honorably discharged May 17, 1919. He was a member of the Troop I Association. Mr VIERTEL had been employed as a truck driver and in the warehouse of A L Shafton & Co. for the past three and one-half years, and had received awards for safe driving. Until 1937 he played on local baseball leagues, and since then was connected to the game in various either capacities. Surviving are his parents, two sisters, Mrs Max HUEY, and Mrs Merrill BALDWIN, and four brothers, Ernest Jr, Ferdinand and Otto E VIERTEL of Park Ridge and Edward P VIERTEL of Rock Island, IL. Funeral services were held at the Boston Funeral Home.
