World War I, Troop I project. It makes all the work worthwhile :-) If the person's telephone number is published, you can go ahead and try calling or writing to the number/address found in the directory. Genealogy is a popular pursuit now and you might get lucky and find someone with more information to share. Occasionally, though, people do not wish to be contacted or participate in family history research, and consider a telephone call from a 'stranger' an interruption or annoyance. I would suggest writing a letter, instead, and sending a SASE along with your phone number/e-mail address, which can be read and responded to at their convenience, or handed to another relative who is actively researching. The extra effort may result in a better response, and gives the person several options in responding to your questions.
