Posted on: Portage County WI Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Wi/Portage/11001 Surname: NASH ------------------------- Two references for NASH in Land and Lumber: NASH, Phileo p 116 The third river project which provided relief work to the county was "Lake" DuBay, which began life as the Knowlton Flowage. It was originally part of the grand plan that included both Eau Pleine reserviorsm but was built on its own when the Little Eau Pleine Reservoir died. Work began in 1939, but halted in 1940, after archeologist Phileo NASH discovred the remains fo Jean Louis DuBay's trading post. After NASH completed hie work, the dam flooded the DuBay site but the resulting flowage was named in his honor. NASH, Thomas Pg 96-97 Indeed, it is difficult to identify a "lumber barron" at Stevens Point. Here, the city differs from other sawmill cities of the Wisconsin Valley. john WEEK, Matt WADLEIGH and later, John BUKOLT all did well in the lumber industry, but they did not leave as dominant a footprint as Walter ALEXANDER and D C EVEREST in Wausau or Thomas NASH and George MEAD in Wisconsin Rapids.
