Posted on: PortageCoWI Obits Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Wi/PortageObits/10912 Surname: DEAN, SPREDA ------------------------- George SPREDA Obit printed in he Stevens Point Daily Journal, November 21 1945, Page 7 and Nov 27, Page 7 George SPREDA, 1887 - 1945 George "Seb" SPREDA, age 58, a World War I veteran and former Stevens Point resident, died Tuesday afternoon at the Veterans Hospital at King. He had been a resident of the veterans home at King prior to 1941 and returned there six weeks ago when he became ill. Mr SPREDA was born on Feb 3, 1887, in Stevens Point, a son of the late George and Agnes SPREDA. He attended the local public schools and then entered the employ of the Soo Line railroad. He worked in the car department of the Soo until the outbreak of the first World war. He enlisted on April 6, 1917 with Troop I, First Wisconsin Cavalry, and served overseas from March 1918, to May 17, 1919, when he was honorably discharged. Mr SPREDA returned to the Soo's employ, working there for a number of years until entering the veterans home at King in 1938. He lived at the home until 1941 when he went to Delafield where he was employed at St John's Military Academy until returning to King six weeks ago. He was a member of Romulus Berens Post No. 6, American Legion. Surviving are two brothers, Frank SPREDA and Jerome SPREDA, both of Stevens Point, and two sisters, Miss Margaret SPREDA of Eau Claire and Mrs Herbert DEAN, Whiting. Funeral services will be Saturday morning at the chapel at King where burial will follow, Rev D L KREMBS of Waupaca officiating. The body is at a Waupaca funeral home and pallbearers will be veterans from the home at King.
