Charles Martin did indeed marry Sophia Isabelle Lombard in August 1887. They had just one daughter, Harriet Marie Kates. She was born October 8, 1858 at Massillon, OH. She was educated in Spokane, Washington at a business school. She went by "Marie" Marie married Moses (Morris) Manchester after meeting him at the Campbells Soup Factory in California. They had two daughters, Phoebe and Jeanne, and moved them back up to Spokane during the depression, near relatives of Belle's (as she liked to be called.) Phoebe married and had one daughter, Jeanne Looman. Divorced and remarried C. Hans Mumm and had three more children, David, Marie and Stephen. Her oldest daughter passed away of leukemia at age 20, but the other 3 children are still living. I am married to Stephen. Jeanne married and had one daughter, Cynthia. Jeanne passed away but Cyndi still living in California.. I have many other dates for all the sibs of your father, Francis, and some info going back to Jacob Kates in 1790. There is a folklore in the family that somehow this lineage is related to the Declaration of Independance or early settlers of the US. Any information you may be able to share about the Kates' lineage would be greatly appreciated. Candace Mumm
