William H PACKARD was a NY millwright of French heritage who found his skills much in demand in sawmill country. He built mills and work as a sawyer from Grand Rapids to Wausau before settling in to a political career in Portage County... As for the book, it is a wonderful account of the history of Portage County, what the people were like and many many beautiful photographs of places and people... Most of the entries about people are brief. It is NOT a book of people's biographies, that is for sure... I am not related to nor have any additional information on these surnames. R/S MAK
