    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Campbell Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DFC.2ACE/401.1.1 Message Board Post: Thank you for trying to help identify my John Campbell, residing in Stevens Point, Portage Co., Wisconsin, about 1846-1850. Your John Perry Campbell is a separate person. He is indexed in "Our County Our Story, Portage County, Wisconsin" by Malcolm Rosholt, 1959. The listing for your John Campbell: Campbell, John P., pioneer and CWV, pg. 520. (CWV is likely Civil War Veteran). My John Campbell: Campbell, John, frontiersman, 33, 149, 404, 418, 422. My John Campbell supposedly drowned in the Wisconsin River in 1850. However, that was probably a cover for a rapid exit from the territory. Around 1865 he was living in Idaho Territory, when he was called to testify in his brother James M (Matt) Campbell's Lafayette County Wisconsin probate case. These two had a brother living in Illinois who was even more "slippery." I have learned that he had a daughter, but cannot locate his first name. Campbell was a very common name on the frontier!
