At the residence of her father, in the village of Plover, June 30th, 1871. Mrs. LILLA V. LANE WOODBURY, aged seventeen years, nine months and thirteen days. She sleeps in the valley so sweet Not a sound e'er disturbs her repose, In the stillness of this calm retreat She rests secure ---- safe from life's woes. How gently she rested in God: To thy arms, my Savior I come--- Come quickly, come quickly, O Lord, And welcome thy child to her home. She sleeps in the valley so sweet; But her spirit has taken it's flight, Lo; her form is but dust 'neath our feet, While she is an angel of light. A Card, To the citizens of Plover and vicinity, we express our gratitude; our sincere and heartfelt thanks for the assistance so generously rendered to us, during the illness and death of our dear LILLA. Also for the kindly manifestations of sympathy expressed, in the anguish of our bereavement. CHAS. A. LANE HARRIET A. LANE **Courtesy posting only, no relation to me.

Oles, Jr., of La Crosse, who died on his way from Waco to the Atlantic coast, where he was to take ship to France, was a cousin of J.W. Strope of Stevens Point, his mother, who was Miss Addie Beach, being Mr. Strope's first cousin. Mrs. Pitcher of Plover is a sister of Frank H. Oles, Sr. The young man, who was a member of Company B, 128th regiment, was apparently in ordinary health when he left Waco, but enroute it was found that he had been attacked with measles and he was taken off the train and to the army hospital at Camp McClennan, Anniston, Ala. His illness developed into double pneumonia, resulting in his death. Anniston is the camp at which two Stevens Point soldiers died of typhoid fever during the Spanish war. The body of Frank Oles was taken to La Crosse for burial.

I posted the Woolston items in case someone was or would be looking for it. I photocopied that page because of the marriage anouncement for Wm. Oles, a great, great, great grandfather of mine. I then did a "Woolston" search on the Portage Co. board and seen your message from a few years back. I'm glad I could help... or cause some confusion. Maybe their arrival to Plover in July, 1872, was to check it out before making a final decision. They may have gone back to Glasgow to tie things up over there, perhaps they still owned real estate that needed to be sold. If you email a message to our transcriber, MAK, I'm sure she can find you some info on the Scotts or Woolstons. If you check her latest, and almost all her postings, she lists website addresses to local resources, such as obituary and cemetery burial listings here in Portage County. I believe if you click on the author of her postings, it will give you her email address. Hope that helps.

Surnames: Woolston and Scott Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DFC.2ACE/1872.1.1 Message Board Post: Many thanks John for your message. Since my posting I have confirmed that these people are in fact "my family" but your message has left me reeling somewhat. I have the birth of Mary Jane Woolston in Scotland, 10 Jan 1972, and had also deduced that Mrs James Scott was indeed the sister of Jane Ellen Woolston. However, the 1880 census for Portage shows the entire Woolston family (parents and 5 children) with the remaining children being born in Scotland. (Copies of birth entries obtained). So, if poor baby Mary Jane died in Plover in 1872, then William and Jane Ellen Woolston must have returned to Scotland straight away as their next daughter was born in April 1873 in Glasgow. After having 5 children, the family must then have returned to Plover. Can't see any other explanation. Wonder if the Plover Times may have more details. Any further information on the Scotts would be most welcome also. Thank you very much. It may be over 3 years since I posted my message, so it obviously pays off!!
