    3. Hi, I just got back to CA this morning, from a two week cross-county trip to WI. It is surprising how similar yet different home is upon returning... It poured alot and was cold, so I am not sure how my pictures will turn out... I did get some information for the sites, however, did not get to LaFayette, Monroe, or Green Counties to research as planned. We walked two cemeteries in JuneauCoWI and put one on digital, so that will be posted in the near future. I have over 200 emails to answer, obits to post and other goodies to organize, so if I am quiet, it is due to productivity not indifference. Rest assured that any information sent in during my vacation will be up on the site in the next few weeks. 3. I want to thank all the people who sent me greetings and congrats on my recent graduation. It was so thoughtful and touched my heart. I am back in Wisconsin for several weeks and it is great to be seeing all the sites, old friends, and making new... It is SO beautiful here. You are really a great group of people and I am delighted to be creating the Monroe, Portage, and Wood county pages with you. I am looking forward to finishing old projects and starting new ones... Any and all ideas are welcome. Currently, I am finishing projects sent by Maryls and Betty, and backlogged on obits from Joan... I am without all capabilities except email (and it is killing me - grin) until 3 Jun, upon my return... I am stopping in some of the counties to try and obtain some NEW stuff for lookups, etc, but am really concentrating on my OWN famiy tree as it has been neglected for years.... Any and all stuff that I find will be willingly shared. More later... CELEBRATE WISCONSIN!!! Lewis Gardner 53 m farmer 3000 300NJ Julia 43 f NY Levi 23 m Ohio Robert 17 m Ohio James 15 m Wis Warren 13 m Wis Adams was form in 1848 from PortageCoWI... 1855 Census http://www.rootsweb.com/~wijuneau/1855census.htm Town of Lisbon, AdamsCoWI (present day is Lisbon Township, JuneauCoWI)... Lewis Gardner head of family... Therefore both James Gardner b. 1845 and Warren Gardner b. 1847 could not have been born in AdamsCoWI. However, there may not be a record of birth recorded, as PortageCoWI earliest registration dates are 1866. I checked the WI Pre 1907 microfilms, and neither James or Warren are listed for ANY county in WI. That doesn't mean they weren't born here, just not listed on the microfishe. Therefore, next step is to check the christening records... Do you know if the GARDNERs remained in JuneauCoWI? If so, Check the JCGS Cemetery Book 3 or 5, I checked 1 & 2 and they are not in it... Fountain Township is in Book 3 and Mauson is in Book 5. . http://www.rootsweb.com/~wijuneau/jcgs.html Tombstones sometimes give birth dates. In Book 1, pg 39 St FRancis of Assisi Cemetery, there is the following: Lot 520 GARDNER, Jane Jul 20, 1880 81 y 2 m 10 d w/Edwin Other info found in the search: There are Gardners that went to church in St Patricks, Mauston, Lindina Township, JuneauCoWI. You might check to see if the church has christening records. I noted the name Louis in 1922.... so I did a check under that and found this: Louis J Gardner Birth Date: 22 Aug 1906 County: Juneau Reel: 0321 Record: DX0502 Census 1850 GARDNER LOUIS Waukesha County WI 386 Delafield http://www.rootsweb.com/~wijuneau/CWVets.htm Gardner, Levi S. MARTIN, CATHARINE 15 Sep 1885 Grant WI Just some info I found when trying to confirm search information for birth records in what county... Research tips: http://www.rootsweb.com/~rwguide/lesson6.htm Often, we assume that the birth record will provide this information and therefore attempt to start by searching for this record. You are more likely to be successful with your research if you do the search for vital records (birth, marriage and death) in the reverse order of life's events. Start with death records, then seek the marriage records and finally hunt for birth records. Keep in mind that in many localities, particularly the United States, birth records are a modern record and outside of New England often do not exist prior to about 1900. I am not related to nor have any additional information on these surnames. R/S MAK
