LOBERG My grandfather, Nels J. Loberg, son of Pioneer, Johan N. Loberg, (who emigrated to Wisconsin in 1849, with his parents and siblings),(b.02 August, 1837; d. 20 Dec., 1920), and mother, Anna Marie Skowen, (b.25 Jan.,1836; d. 18 Jan. 1921), was born on February 18, 1860, on the home farm in Amherst Township. He died 28 November, 1946. He began a General Merchandising business in Nelsonville, in 1886, in partnership with Gilbert Gullickson. They took over the business of John Loberg at Nelsonville. He later bought out his partner?s interest. Nels married Dina Boe, (b. 28 July, 1856; d. 11 March, 1911) on 26 Dec., 1889. She was the daughter of Pioneer, David Knudsen Boe, ( b.03 October, 1826; d. 21 Feb., 1896) from Lærdal, Norway, and Kirsti Andersdtr. Moe, (b.1821; d. in the 1860?s), who emigrated in 1854 and owned a farm in Amherst Township. Nels and Dina made their home in Nelsonville, where were born three stillborn babies, and one boy, Chester, who died in infancy, and one boy, Jesse Dewey Loberg, who lived until age 84. (b. 24 October, 1891; d. 27 June, 1975) He married Margaret C. Hansen, (b. 03 July, 1892; d. 03 March, 1980) on 18 May, 1921. Four daughters were born ?Marjorie, Dorothy, Virginia, and Charlotte. I have in my possession, some stationery with letter heads, of Nels? business. They are: ?Loberg, Johnson & Co.??1907; ?N. J. Loberg & Co.? ? 1916; and ?N. J. Loberg & Co.? ? 1927. He brought his brother, Carl Loberg into the business, exact year unknown, and in about 1933, sold the business to him. So, on page 4 & 6 of the Nelsonville History, it should read, Nels Loberg?s store. Nels was the earlier, and much longer, prominent business man from Nelsonville. He belonged to the South New Hope Lutheran Church, and later, to Our Savior Lutheran Church at Benson Corners. Submitted by: Charlotte LOBERG Nelson , <[email protected]> grand daughter of Nels J. Hi Portage list, My name is Patrick Andrus from Portland, OR. I am searching for my family in Portage County, somewhere near Stevens Point. I have some information but I have been looking for the big breakthrough for several years. I will start by listing what I have and hope for the best. My ggg Grandparents were Hiram Andrus (Andrews) and Lucy Pratt. Their 2 known children were William b. June 1824 PA and Calvin D. Andrus b. Aug 8, 1835 Troy, PA. The General Land Records for WI lists Lucy Andrews on Land Patent document #11093 dated Oct. 1, 1858 for a 40 acre plot in Stevens Pt., WI. Following the Civil War, Calvin Andrus (Andrews) and his wife Lucy Aldrich had their first children, Frank Andrus b. abt 1864 and Charles Andrus b. October 7, 1866 at Stevens Point, WI. Can anyone help me out trying to locate any of these people in Portage County 1850 to 1870? I would appreciate your help. Thanks very much in advance. Patrick

R/S MAK +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Hello All, Last night and today I tried to access the http://www.usgs.gov/gnis/pub site and was unable to do so. I've been looking at the lists also since we talked, but only got to Vol 3 so far. I made a copy of the manifest. Thank you so much. Anton and Albertine were in the Stevens Point, WI area in Sharon Township in the 1880 census. I would assume their move to Berlin was probably for economic reasons. Who knows, maybe they just wanted to be near family. I got some copies of obits today from Oshkosh. I will add them to the envelope I've got ready to send to you and mail it by Wednesday. Nancy B
