    3. This couple had four children at Stevens Point from 1850 to Feb. 1960 The BLM has a record of a title transfer to Joseph B. Phelpsdated 9/1/1858. This was for the "NE quarter of the NW quarter of section 36 in township 24 north of Stevens East in the district of lands subject to sale at Stevens Point, Wisconsin, containing 40 acres." Do any of you have the maps and knowledge needed to translate that into a map location or latitude and longitude? They had their next child in Boise Idaho in August 1866. Any idea of what besides the end of the Civil War might have urged them to move on? Thanks William P. Russell P.O. Box 2029 Bandon, OR 97411 [email protected]

    1. Green Lake / Berlin Names
    2. Sobieski
    3. Hello to you all! I just sent this to the Green Lake Board and forward it to you because many of these people are connected to or spent time in the Stevenspoint area before and after locating in Berlin. We have many mysteries to solve. Does anyone have connections to the below names? Sobieszczyk/Sobieski... My husband's great grandparents, Anton and Justina Kosmowski Sobieszczyk came to the US in 1872 and eventually settled in Berlin. They had three children. Adolph married Matilda Mionskowski. Mary married Joseph Domahowski. Eva??? The name Sobieszczyk was changed to Sobieski and Jim is a cousin to the Sobieskis who today still live in the Berlin area and beyond. Kosmowski/Kosmoski/Kosmoske Nephews and nieces of Justina and at least one sister in law also came to Berlin. Charles K was married to Katherine Pernitzke Carl K was married to Pauline ? and one of their daughters married Florian Kresal Brzeski/Briskie... Back in Poland the Sobieszczyks and Brzeskis were very close. They were sponsors for one another and one of Justina's sisters married Simon Brzeski. One of the daughters of Simon and Anna Brzeski (Albertina) made it to Berlin and married a Bronk We suspect that the other Brzeskis (later changed to Briskie, Briski etc..) in Berlin were also related. . Mionskowski/Minskowski/Miskie??? Jim's grandmother was Matilda Mionskowski. She was related to the Mionskowskis of Stevenspoint, who came earlier than she did to this country. The story is that she came with a brother August Miskowski who was supposed to be a carpenter in Berlin. We have never found an August Minskowski/Mionskowski/Miskowski in the Berlin area. We do find a man names August Miskie, a carpenter who would be the right age etc.. Does anyone have these names in their family tree?? Cinny Sobieski

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DFC.2ACE/1577.1.1 Message Board Post: I'm glad you found something useful among the Portage Co. World War I, Troop I project. It makes all the work worthwhile :-) If the person's telephone number is published, you can go ahead and try calling or writing to the number/address found in the directory. Genealogy is a popular pursuit now and you might get lucky and find someone with more information to share. Occasionally, though, people do not wish to be contacted or participate in family history research, and consider a telephone call from a 'stranger' an interruption or annoyance. I would suggest writing a letter, instead, and sending a SASE along with your phone number/e-mail address, which can be read and responded to at their convenience, or handed to another relative who is actively researching. The extra effort may result in a better response, and gives the person several options in responding to your questions.
