Hanson, Aged 91, Lifelong Resident of Community, Died on Wednesday, Oct. 18. Belle Anderson Hanson was born in Martell township in Pierce County, September 27th, 1853, about a year after her parents, Guttorm and Christiana Anderson, had arrived in this country from Modum, Norway. She was the fourth of a large family of ten children, and like many of the older children of pioneer families, she early took her full share of responsibility in maintaining the home. She, with others of her family, became a member of the Norwegian Methodist church of New Centerville, from which she transferred her membership to the Methodist church of River Falls in which she remained a member up to the time of her death. On April 27, 1879, she was married to the late Charles E. Hanson. They made their first home in River Falls where four of their six children were born. Then years after their marriage, the family moved to the Guttorm Anderson farm in the Gertrude community, which Mr. Hanson had purchased. Wishing, however, to take advantage of the educational facilities of River Falls for their children, they purchased a farm on the South Fork Road from Healy Brothers, and later Mr. Hanson added the old Fisher place to this farm and built a new home on the site of the Fisher house. Here they lived until Mr. Hanson was ready to relinquish his farming to his sons, Leslie and Fred, when they moved into town and built another new home on Maple street. >From 1917 to 1929 she spent much time in Madison where her husband was a member of the assembly. In 1928 they moved back to the house on their "Healy" farm in the South Fork valley, which was dear to both their hearts, and there they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on April 27, 1929. When her husband died in 1932, she continued to live in this farm home until the infirmity of age compelled her to accept the generous hospitality of her son, Leslie, and his wife. Like her husband, her church was not the least of her interests, and it's activities received her consecrated attention always. While unostentatious in the matter of religion she was reverent and devout in both public and private life. Three of her children preceded her in death: G. Elmer in 1910, leaving a daughter, who is now Mr. George Hempler of Everett, Washington; Myrtle (Mrs. F.E. Stever) in 1942 leaving a daughter Pauline, Minneapolis, Minn. and a son, George F., of Portland, Ore.; Helen (Mrs. C.H. Clay) leaving a daughter, Joyce of Minneapolis, Minn, a son, Charles H., in the U.S. Navy, and daughter, Patricia, at home with her father at Amery. Her long, serene and useful life came to it's earthly close in Wednesday morning, October 18, 1944 following a brief illness. She is survived by a son, Leslie J., of River Falls, and his childrenn, John L., in the U.S. Army now in Europe, C. Edward, and Jean Ann at home; a daughter, Stella (Mrs. Carl Nelson) of Grand Forks, N.D. with her children, Norma Jean, Spokane, Wash., C. William in the U.S. Army now in Eurpoe; and son, Fred B. of Hamilton, Mont. and his son, F. Burton, of River Falls. Besides these children and granchildren, she is survived by four great grandchildren, children from Mrs. George Hempler and F. Burton Hanson. In addition to her descendants she is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Downer of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Julia Healy of River Falls. Her funeral was held from the Methodist church on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Her pastor, the Rev. J.W. Harris, delivering a highly fitting memorial address from the text: "Let Me Die the Death of the Righteous, and Let My Last End Be like His (Hers)!" Numbers 23-1. Mrs. J.W. Harris was at the console of the organ, and Mrs. Frank L. Anderson and Mrs. James Richards sang "Rock of Ages" and "Lead Kindly LIght". Her body was borne from the church to it's final resting place in the family lot in Greenwood cemetery by her grandsons, C. Edward and F. Burton Hanson, and her nephews, A. Ray, Frank L. and George A. Anderson, and Manley Healy.
