R. (Cap) Tyler in Home at Bay City, Wis. C.R. (Cap) Tyler, pioneer river pilot and lumberman, who was widely known on the upper river, died Saturday afternoon at 2:15 o'clock in his home at Bay City, Wis. He had been in failing health since last July. He, however, had been up and around until last Friday. Mr. Tyler was born at Bay City on July 5, 1859, and made his home there throughout his life. He was engaged in the lumbering business for many years, retiring about 20 years ago to become commercial fisherman [sic] logging steamers on the upper river and knew the channel as few men did. In connection with his lumbering operations he ran sawmills in the section. The marriage of Mr. Tyler to Martha G. Miller, of Prescott, Wis., was solemnized on March 17, 1881. Mr. Tyler took a great interest in collecting curios and relics, boasting one of the finest collections to be found in this section. His geological and archeological specimens have been the subjects of much study by university men. The museum in the Tyler home has drawn hundreds of visitors and there was nothing "Cap" liked better than to entertain visitors and show them around, giving graphic accounts regarding the various specimens. His widow, two sons and three daughters survive. The children are: Rolland M., Minneapolis; Clinton, Bay City, Wis., Mrs. F. L. Stone, Prescott, Wis.; Mrs. A. L. Lipinski, Racine, Wis; ans Mrs. E. D. Lande, Bay City. A brother, C. P. Tyler, Bay City, Wis., a sister, Mrs. Mary Sherburne, Spokane, Wash., 19 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren are also left to mourn his loss. A daughter, Mrs. Everett Harding, died last year. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:45 o'clock from the family residence and later at the Bay City church, the Rev. Everett Hall officiating. Burial will be at the Bay City cemetery. (clipping from family collection.
