Mead Bailey Jr. was born at Lena, Stevenson Co., IL., March 16, 1843, son of a Baptist minister. When only nineteen years old he enlisted in the Union army at Kalamazoo, MI., joining Co. F, 19th Mich. Vol. Inf. He was discharged May 31st, 1863, at Detroit. After the war he came with his parents to River Falls, WI., where they lived for several years, moving then to Cady, in St. Croix Co. In 1873 he married Miss Isabelle Hanson, who survives him, with three children Mrs. George Schultz, of Edgewater, and Guy and Mark, of Spring Valley; five other children died in infancy. Later they moved to the town of Spring Lake, where they lived a number of years. While here Mr. Bailey helped organize and build the Spring Lake Lutheran church. Later they moved to Spring Valley. Besides his wife and children he leaves two brothers and one sister, and a host of more distant relatives, to mourn his death. Funeral was held Saturday from the Tousley undertaking rooms, Rev. Lambright officiating, and later from the Spring Lake church, Rev. Berven officiating. The American Legion was in charge of both services and at the burial in Spring Lake cemetery.
