Hi all: Just wanted to put a word in everyone's ear about the GenConnect boards available on the Pierce County WIGenWeb site. I know that we are all sitting on small mountains of deeds, wills and obituaries for our families in Pierce County. I am hoping to persuade one and all to donate them to the Pierce County site. The GenConnect boards are extremely easy to use and can help you in your research by giving national indexes to the surnames you are researching. This not only benefits other researchers working on the same lineage, but can also put you in touch with other long lost branches of your family. Perhaps they have information to share that you do not yet have. So please, won't you consider submitting your info? It only takes a few minutes to post and your message appears within a day or so of submission. BTW, David Janes who has been working on the Hartland Township 1880 census has finished transcribing and I will be receiving in the next week or so to place online. Looking forward to another excellent addition to the website. Thanks Debbie Barrett http://www.rootsweb.com/~wipierce/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~nywashin/

Hi: Does anyone out there have access to the "History of the St. Croix Valley" published, possibly, in 1908. I would like to be able to obtain copies of the Pierce County section, which I have been led to believe is nearly 100 pages long to add to the Pierce County site. If you have a copy of this book and would be willing to make copies, I would be happy to reimburse you for your costs. Please let me know, this would be a great addition to the growing Pierce County WIGenWeb project. Debbie Barrett http://www.rootsweb.com/~wipierce/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~nywashin/

Hi all: Just wanted to let everyone know I have been busy typing my fingers off and hope to have some new material online just after the first of the month. A very nice woman in Burnett County (she runs the Burnett County WIGenWeb project) photocopied pages pertaining to Pierce County out of two very old, out of print history books. Lots of good bios coming your way soon of some very early settlers and some very informative history on the early formation of Pierce County. Dear Helen: If this couple was married in Wisconsin (your query doesn't state), there should be a marriage certificate on file for them. It was state law beginning in the 1850s, I believe, that all marriages be recorded. Many LDS Family History Centers have a microfiche of all the marriage records for the state of WI. I would check with your local church to see if they have one. >From their marriage certificate, you might be able to obtain parents names for both John and Laura. I am not sure that this information may relate at all to your quest, but here's a bit of WHIPPLE lore-- On April 17, 1867, Anna or Antoinette Nelson was born in MN to Emma Nelson and her husband. They later moved to Osakis MN, where her husband died while deer hunting and Emma married Harvey O WHIPPLE. I am guessing that before moving to MN, the Nelsons may have lived in WI, and possibly Harvey O WHIPPLE did too. I did find some info on a Harvey O WHIPPLE being born in 1832 in Providence, RI, but I do not know if it is the same person. Annie Nelson WHIPPLE (adopted by Harvey?) married our ancestor Charles RALSTON on October 5, 1885 in Osakis MN. Charles RALSTON and several of his siblings were born in WI, and from the 1870 census, I have found other RALSTON families in Pierce Co. I wonder if anyone knows of the RALSTON families, where they came from and if any of them moved west to MN? Thanks! Nancy Ralston
