Hello: Thanks to all who responded to my idea regarding the Pierce County photos. This project has now begun with a few photos of my own and one new submission. It can be seen by going to the main page of the site at http://www.rootsweb.com/~wipierce and clicking on the People & Places link. Hope to see more photos coming my way soon. If you want info on how to submit, please email me privately at MrsGrinnin@aol.com Thanks again! Debbie http://www.rootsweb.com/~wipierce/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~nywashin/
Hello: Would like to ask how much interest would there be in providing space on the Pierce County site for old photographs, either of residents or towns. The photos could be sent to me as an attachment to email and I would place online. This would help share photos with distant cousins whose families might have lost theirs over the years and put some faces to the names we see on the website. This means photos would have to be scanned or converted to JPG or GIF format somehow prior to emailing. I don't want to be responsible for anyone's old photographs getting lost in the mail or damaged, so mailing them to me is out of the question. I know how precious these things are and am not willing to take that risk. I think many drugstores these days who offer photo processing also can convert your photos to either of the above formats, but you would have to check with your local processor. If there is any interest, please let me know. Would love to see everyone contribute a photo or two (maybe more?). Thanks for your time, Debbie http://www.rootsweb.com/~wipierce/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~nywashin/
Hello: Another 40+ pages of the "History of the St. Croix Valley" have been uploaded today. This project is now 50% complete. Many new bios and some pictures of early settlers. You can find it at http://www.rootsweb.com/~wipierce/ Then click on the "Towns" link and look for the title of the book. A complete index of the bios is provided so you can go directly to the page you need. Enjoy! Debbie http://www.rootsweb.com/~wipierce/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~nywashin/
Hello: The Clifton Township 1880 Federal Census was added this month, as well as 30+ new pages (including photos of several early settler) from the "History of the St. Croix Valley" by Augustus Easton. The Diamond Bluff Township census is being formatted and will hopefully be online within the next week or two. Thanks to those who have contributed to the site. With your help we are growing steadily. If you have any materials or time to contribute, please contact me. All submissions are welcome, no matter how large or small! Debbie Barrett http://www.rootsweb.com/~wipierce/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~nywashin/
Apparently a few people on these mailing lists feel that offering a LEGITIMATE TOUR to NEW ENGLAND for the purposes of GENEALOGICAL & HISTORIC RESEARCH is Spam. Personally I have NEVER heard anything so ridiculous. If GENEALOGICAL & HISTORICAL RESEARCH is NOT the TRUE PURPOSE of these mailing list, then I am sorry we let everyone know this TOUR is available. I also am sorry to hear that the true purpose of these lists is idle chit chat about what family reunion is being held, who went to the dr. yesterday, who's Aunt Sadie just had a wart removed, & who retired from Military Service. ~~ Now, to those of you who TRULY enjoy GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH & HISTORY, & enjoy the idea of having a chance of walking on the same ground your ancestors once walked upon, who truly want a chance to do RESEARCH at the NATIONAL HISTORIC GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY & find the graves of their ancestors, I say this. Please contact us by phone or in an e-mail to us directly at: barroncogene@webtv.net This way we will NOT upset those very very few people who find this TOUR offensive & a huge waste of their gossip time. ~ To those of you who have already SIGNED UP for this TOUR, I say WELCOME ABOARD! ~ For those who want to know what this tour is about: http://www.homestead.com/BarronCountyGenealogical/BarronCoGeneNewEnglandTour.html ~ Thanks! Rosemarie Novak President: Barron County, Wi. Genealogical Society P.S. To those VERY FEW who become upset by this posting, please rest assured, the BARRON COUNTY WI. GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY will not send out another of these NOTICES of GENEALOGICAL TOURS.

Hi Debbie, Thanks for all you helpful advice. You're sure on the ball and ready to help. But I already checked with River Falls Area Research Center for obituaries and they found none, and I've not been able to find Eugenie in the pre-1907 birth index. I have so many people I'm searching for I'm trying to avoid the $7 per person fee for death certificates. I'm hoping someone else researching this line will see my listing and help. Dear Janet: I would suggest that you write to the Bureau of Vital Statistics in Madison for copies of Charles and Phoebe's death certificates, that should give you a precise date to look for an obituary. With dates you can contact the UW-River Falls Area Research Center in River Falls for an obituary. The address is on the Pierce County WIGenWeb project under the "Lookups" link. As to Eugenie, check with your local LDS library. There is on microfilm ALL the pre-1907 births, marriages and deaths for Wisconsin. Many of these libraries have copies of it. If they don't, I think the marriage films are about $40.00 to order and you should be able to find a marriage record for her in them, if she married in Wisconsin. Good luck, hope this helps a little. Hi. I'm looking for information about Charles William (or Willard) CHAPMAN B. 1866 and D. 1951 and his wife, Phoebe Ann ALTON B. 6 Sep 1973 in Spring Valley, Pierce Co., WI and D. 1960. Both are buried in Poplar Hill Cemetery, Rock Elm, Pierce Co., WI by their twin boys who died in 1896 as infants. Phoebe is daughter of Samuel ALTON and Malissa BURNS. I don't know the parents of Charles CHAPMAN. Charles and Phoebe adopted Myrtle Marie B. 16 Feb. 1907 according to BURNS family records. I know no more about her. I've searched for obituaries of Charles and Phoebe in Pierce County without any luck. Where did they die? Does anyone have any more precise information or dates? I'm especially interested in Phoebe ALTON's line. Her father, Samuel, was married first to Elizabeth PAYNE in Waukesha Co., WI. She died in 1868. What happened to Eugenie, their daughter? She was listed with Samuel and his second wife in the 1870 census as being 9 years old. Then she disappears. Samuel ALTON md. second, Malissa BURNS Oct 1869, according to the 1870 census. They settled in Pierce Co, WI where all their children were born. I'm happy to share information and would appreciate any help on these families. Janet kenjan@deseretonline.com

Hi all: The Clifton Township 1880 Federal Census is now online thanks to Merilyn Thelander and the Diamond Bluff Township Census for the same year is not far behind, thanks to Marilyn Pank. Both have worked hard to bring this information to the site and their efforts are greatly appreciated. You can find them at http://www.rootsweb.com/~wipierce and then click on Census. Also, the site has just had a major face lift. Hope you like it. Debbie Barrett CC Pierce County WIGenWeb project http://www.rootsweb.com/~wipierce/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~nywashin/
