    1. [WIPierce] Another update on the Pierce WIGenweb Project
    2. Hello: Thanks to Patricia Dawson, there is yet another history online. "History of Washington County and the St. Croix Valley, Including the Explorers and Pioneers of Minnesota" published in 1881. This one also has an index on its own page. If you view the index and find a name of interest, just go to the actual history and use your browsers FIND function to locate that name in the document. This addition can be accessed by going to the TOWNS link on the main page and then clicking on its link. Nance Sampson, the Coordinator for Barron and Sawyer Counties, is also donating biographies from the "History of the Chippewa Valley" published in 1891/92. An index to what will be available is already online and can be accessed from the main page by clicking on the BIOGRAPHIES link. This is where all the biographies will be placed when Nance is done with them. And, one last thing. There is an organization out there currently passing off free genealogical sites as their own databases and charging people to access them. Due to this, I am going to have to spend time placing disclaimers on each and every data page on the Pierce County site. This will take some time and I am very angry that I have to do this to protect not only my and my volunteers hard work, but hopefully dissuade this person from using the data contained on my site to scam unsuspecting genealogists. Maybe I can help put him out of business by doing this, I can only hope. When you find a pay for view site, check them out completely before plunking down your money, it is a buyer beware situation out there. And while there are many legitimate operations, there are some that are complete rip offs. Debbie Barrett http://www.rootsweb.com/~wipierce/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~nywashin/

    1. [WIPierce] Pierce County grows again!
    2. Hi all: The following have been added this week to the Pierce County WIGenWeb project: Updated the pre-1907 death index, it is now truly complete The 1855 State Census for Pierce County is now online More family photos were contributed by Sharon Wick. Thanks Sharon I know you've got old photos in your attics or trunks or that box in the closet, pull them out and lets get them online. It is fun to see faces associated with the names being input on the website. Also, as always, the microfilm I transcribed the 1855 State census from was not in the best of shape. Prescott was very faded and there were scratches (just once I would like to get a good copy of something!). If you have access to a master index for this census and can fill in some of the question marks, it would be greatly appreciated. Enjoy the new additions. If you can help, I will be in > your debt forever. Thanks - Don > Dear Don, If you haven't already tried this, write or call the Area Research Center at River Falls. Write to: Chalmer Davee Library, Area Research Center, University of Wisconsin-River Falls, 410 South Third Street, River Falls, WI 54022 or call: (715) 425-3321 and ask for an Archives Assistant who can help you find a person in an obituary in a newspaper and a death and marriage record for Frederick in the pre-1907 marriage and death records and maybe Evelyn's birth record (though it probably too early) They have all these records. You have exact dates and places so they may be able to find these records. Since you don't know the town where Frederick died they may just look in River Falls and find no obituary. You may have to ask them again to search in other newspapers. If they don't find him in the Pre-1907 death records index they won't just look through the film. Go to the nearest Family History Center and order the film on Pierce County records. He may be in the death records, but just not listed in the index. All these records have places to show the parents names. Unfortunately they didn't always fill them in. I just remembered that rootsweb.com has the Pierce County, WI Pre-1907 birth, marriage, and death index online now. You still need to send for the records as this just he index. Check unusual spellings of the name or you may miss it. I just found my ALTON spelled as OTTMAN. Sit down and write how the name sounds before looking. It's suprising what you come up with! A few weeks ago I called Chalmer Davee Library and gave them the information on my ancestors and they looked them up and sent me what they found. Very nice! Then I usually send them at least several dollars to cover postage and their effort. A death certificate from the county or state is $7. Hope this helps and good luck. Janet

    1. [WIPierce] Pierce County WIGenWeb update
    2. Hello: Just to let you all know that the last of the "History of the St. Croix Valley" is being uploaded as I speak. Read about Pierce County's one (and only?) serial poisoner on page 674. I have also ordered the 1855 State Census from my local LDS. As soon as it comes in, I will begin transcribing. These are much smaller than the federal census materials as they are only head of household listed, so it shouldn't take too long (famous last words). Are there any takers on helping with the others, i.e., 1865, 1875, 1885 etc.? Debbie http://www.rootsweb.com/~wipierce/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~nywashin/
