    1. [WIPierce] Proofreaders Needed for Pierce County
    2. Debbie Barrett
    3. Hello: Just wanted to drop a note begging and pleading for anyone with access to the Pre-1907 marriage index for Pierce County, WI, who has the time to help proofread the index. I am completely revamping this index, just as I did the birth and death before it, and am creating a new Bride index to accompany the Groom index already online. I need proofreaders for this new index. I know the pre-1907 marriage index can be found at some LDS Family History Centers, and possibly the network of University of Wisconsin Research Centers throughout the state of Wisconsin. It may be available other places as well. If you have access, won't you please consider helping. Thanks for your time, and Happy New Year to one and all! Debbie Barrett

    3. Posted on: Pierce Co. Wi Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Wi/Pierce/77 Surname: Preble ------------------------- There's probably several spellings to this name. Hudson is on the St.Croix River. It's on the border of Wisc & MN. Most people moved up and down and back and forth across the river. I was born in the area. I have allot of genealogy things for that area. I believe I've come across the name Preble in Stillwater MN area before. That was MN's first capitol and one of the biggest places around back then. It also had the only prison for the area. I believe I've seen the name Pribble. In that time there was allot of miss spellings because of all the different nationalities. So when info was taken down,it depended on who was taking it how the spelling came out. Do you have any years or names you want,or just the name looked up? Maria countryacres@madillok.net

    2. Gail Bice
    3. Posted on: Pierce Co. Wi Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Wi/Pierce/75 Surname: PRIBLE, PREBLE ------------------------- My husbands great grandfather was Benjamin Reuben PRIBLE / PREBLE. I would estimate he was born around 1847. Benjamin listed his place of birth on census records as Maine. So I have spent 25 fruitless years trying to find him in Maine. Last night, thanks to Ancestry's images on line I found his Civil War record. List his place of residence as Hudson, Wisconsin. I pulled up the census records available on ancestry and found several PREBLE / PRIBLE listings in Pierce County which is located directly below St. Croix County where Hudson is located. As Pierce was formed from St. Croix County I strongly believe these PREBLE / PRIBLE families are his relatives. There were no listings in St. Croix County. Benjamin fought in the Civil War in Wisconsin Co. D 2nd Cavalry from enlistment in 1861 to 1865. He fought at the Battle of Vicksburg. He ended up in Arkansas County, Arkansas where he married Cora Belle VAN CAMP in 1875. He also fought in several battles in the Civil War in Arkansas. I am trying to find out anything about the PREBLE / PRIBLE family in this area of Wisconsin. I strongly suspect he is the son of Rufus, Eli and Andrew PREBLE / PRIBLE. Thank you.

There is a listing for Ernest Desjardin and his post office address is listed as Ellsworth. Ellsworth is in Pierce County, Wisconsin. I am not familiar with a "Coma" located in Pierce County; however, there was a post office called "Dot" that existed from 10/1899 to 9/1900, located in town of River Falls. 3. Hello: The first volume of Naturalizations are online. These are complete from 1854-1896. The film is not what I was hoping it would be, and is just the certificates of naturalization, but they did contain the county where the Declaration of Intent was filed and the date. These DI's may hold the date of arrival for some of your ancestors who emigrated and, at the very least, tells you where to start looking for your ancestors in other states, prior to their arrival in Pierce County. Hope you find it useful. Still have two more volumes to complete. www.rootsweb.com/~wipierce/naturalizations.htm Debbie Barrett County Coordinator Pierce County WIGenWeb Project Washington County NYGenWeb Project

Emerson or G.F. is shown on the 1895 Census. All this census says of course is that he is a white male living with 2 white females, all born in the U.S. I have one photocopied page of the census which shows him. Also of course my relatives whom I'm researching Jeppa Jeppason (Jep Jepson). More information might be found by e-mailing the University of Wisconsin - River Falls Archives on their website. Ask about the name appearing on tax rolls of that time period or on other census such as the 1890 or 1900 ones which would supply info. on family names (children) etc. I am not researching this name - I just remember seeing it on the census page I photocopied...Good Luck

    2. Debbie Barrett
    3. Hello all: Just wanted you to know that I have not been idle the last month. Am nearly finished with the first volume of the Naturalizations in Pierce County which I believe goes from 1858 to 1886. These are the microfilmed records from the LDS and are only the certificates provided each person. I will be checking with the UW-River Falls to see if they have access to the actual files with each persons information in them. These should hopefully be online in the next week or so. Debbie

They're available on microfiche that can be ordered at any Family History Center of the L.D.S. Church. They make copies at the main Library in Salt Lake City, UT and send them to the FHC where they remain permanently. Cost is about 15 cents a fiche. Maybe a FHC near you has them already. Or, maybe you're near a large library that has them. You can send for films of the origional records if you find your people in the indexes. The Area Research Center at River Falls in Pierce County can help you too. They have the same records. Their address is: Davee Library, University of Wisconsin - River Falls, 410 S. 3rd St., River Falls, WI 54022. You have a complete death date so they could check their River Falls newspapers for an obituary. They recently checked it for me. You can just send them $2 to $3 for a copy of an obituary, a census record, birth, marriage or death record. They've been a big help to me and are quick to respond. You might want to check Burkharts too. I have Burkharts whose names were mispelled Burket, and many other different ways similar to your Birkett. I hope this helps.
