Mr. Grady settled in this town on the farm where he died about the year 1870. He was taken sick on Sunday the 9th inst. but after a visit from his physician he seemed to recover rapidly. Tuesday he was up around the house playing with his grandchildren until about 1:30 p.m. when he suffered a stroke of appoplexy from which he died at 3 p.m. He leaves surviving him three sons--James, Jr. of Great Falls, Mont., Michael of Trimbelle and Roger of Comet, Mont. The funeral services were held last Friday morning at the Big River Catholic church and his remains buried beside those of his wife who died in July 1884, and their children who died in infancy. As a boy of nine or ten years of age the writer will always remember his kindly genial smile which was familiar to all his neighbors and friends. Extending our sympathies to the surviving members of the family who were old playmates and schoolmates, we bid our old friend who is gone farewell. James Grady, Jr. came home to the funeral of his father. Roger was so far from telegraph communications that he did not get the telegram in time to come. Mrs. Samuel Shanks of Brainard, Minn. mother of Mrs. Michael Grady, was down to the funeral."

    3. Posted on: Pierce Co. Wi Obituaries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Wi/PierceObits/10034 Surname: Hanson ------------------------- Charles E. Hanson (1932)-River Falls paper? Charles Edward Hanson, son of Elef Gilstad and Bertha Jahr Hanson, was born February 27, 1854, in the province of Modum, Norway. When eleven years old he came to America with his parents. On coming to America, Mr. Hanson joined the family of his uncle, the Reverend Mr. Nels Christopherson, a minister of the Norwegian Methodist church at Cambridge, Wis. In 1868 he became an apprentcie in a paint shop in Racine, where he learned the painter's trade which he followed both in Racine and River Falls. He was married to Miss Belle Anderson on April 27, 1879. They made their first home in River Falls, and here four of their six children were born. Ten years after the marrriage the family moved on to a farm in the eastern part of River Falls township in the niehgborhood of Gertrude. A few years later Mr. Hanson purchased the farm in the South Fork valley, which has been their home to the present time, except for a few years when they lived in the city of River Falls from 1916 to 1928. Mr. Hanson was not only an able and successful individual farmer, but he was also greatly in interested in the general business of farming. He was one of the early promoters of cooperative enterprises among farmers, and up to the time of his death was active in the management of the Farmers Elevator of River Falls. In an unusally busy life he also found time to serve his community, and his state. From the time he ws elected to the office of Constable of River Falls in 1887, he has been a public servant of one kind or another, serving the people of his township and county on school and town boards, as assessor, and as a represetntative of Pierce county in the Assembly of the state legislature. His most conspicuous public service was probably as a memeber of the Assembly. He served as a memeber of that house during the sessions of 1917, 1919, 1921, and 1923. In 1925 he was elected sergeant-at-arms of the House and in 1928 was re-elected to serve in the 1929 session. During all of this time he served on important legislative committees, and gave himself unselfishly to the tasks of government. At the time of the golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Hanson, April 27, 1929, the Assembly passed a resolution honoring him for his long and faithful service in that body. His political integrity was such that he was respected and honored by both his friends and his foes in political warfare, and while he always stood firmly for his private and political convictions, he never cherished any bitterness for those who opposed him. His church was not the least of his interests, and it's activities received his consecrated attention. For many years he was a member, regular attendant and active supporter of the Methodist Episcopal church of River Falls, and while he was unostentatious in ihs religion he was reverent and devout in both is public and private life. To Mr. and Mrs. Hanson were born six children, the oldest of these, G. Elmer, died in 1910. The five surviving are Myrtle Stever (Mrs. F.A) of Minneapolis; Leslie J. of River Falls; Stella Nelson (Mrs. Carl) of Crookston, Minn.; Fred B., of River Falls, and Helen Clay (Mrs. C.H.) of Amery. These, with his devoted wife deeply mourn his loss. In addition to the members of his immediate family mentioned above, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Belle Johnson of Racine, Wis., and Miss Katherine Hanson of Minneapolis, Minn, one brother, Edward Hanson of New Centerville, Wis.; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. After a short prayer service at the farm home in South Fork, Rev. Clarence E. Weed conducted the funeral services at the Methodist Episcopal church in River Falls on Sunday afternoon, December 4. The music was rendered by Mrs. C.E. Weed at the pipe organ and Messers. Walter Chapman, Leland Chapman, Gilbert Norseng and Helgeeson, who sang "Lead Kindly Light," "Rock of Ages", and Crossing the Bar". The pallbearers were Messrs. F.M. White, J.W. Allard, Oscar Mallberg, Fred Smith, Alfred Youngren, and T.T. Thomson. Interment was made in the Greenwood cemetery on the family lot.

    3. Posted on: Pierce Co. Wi Obituaries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Wi/PierceObits/10030 Surname: Hanson, Anderson ------------------------- Pioneer Woman Passed Away at Advance Age Mrs. C.E. Hanson, Aged 91, Lifelong Resident of Community, Died on Wednesday, Oct. 18. Belle Anderson Hanson was born in Martell township in Pierce County, September 27th, 1853, about a year after her parents, Guttorm and Christiana Anderson, had arrived in this country from Modum, Norway. She was the fourth of a large family of ten children, and like many of the older children of pioneer families, she early took her full share of responsibility in maintaining the home. She, with others of her family, became a member of the Norwegian Methodist church of New Centerville, from which she transferred her membership to the Methodist church of River Falls in which she remained a member up to the time of her death. On April 27, 1879, she was married to the late Charles E. Hanson. They made their first home in River Falls where four of their six children were born. Then years after their marriage, the family moved to the Guttorm Anderson farm in the Gertrude community, which Mr. Hanson had purchased. Wishing, however, to take advantage of the educational facilities of River Falls for their children, they purchased a farm on the South Fork Road from Healy Brothers, and later Mr. Hanson added the old Fisher place to this farm and built a new home on the site of the Fisher house. Here they lived until Mr. Hanson was ready to relinquish his farming to his sons, Leslie and Fred, when they moved into town and built another new home on Maple street. >From 1917 to 1929 she spent much time in Madison where her husband was a member of the assembly. In 1928 they moved back to the house on their "Healy" farm in the South Fork valley, which was dear to both their hearts, and there they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on April 27, 1929. When her husband died in 1932, she continued to live in this farm home until the infirmity of age compelled her to accept the generous hospitality of her son, Leslie, and his wife. Like her husband, her church was not the least of her interests, and it's activities received her consecrated attention always. While unostentatious in the matter of religion she was reverent and devout in both public and private life. Three of her children preceded her in death: G. Elmer in 1910, leaving a daughter, who is now Mr. George Hempler of Everett, Washington; Myrtle (Mrs. F.E. Stever) in 1942 leaving a daughter Pauline, Minneapolis, Minn. and a son, George F., of Portland, Ore.; Helen (Mrs. C.H. Clay) leaving a daughter, Joyce of Minneapolis, Minn, a son, Charles H., in the U.S. Navy, and daughter, Patricia, at home with her father at Amery. Her long, serene and useful life came to it's earthly close in Wednesday morning, October 18, 1944 following a brief illness. She is survived by a son, Leslie J., of River Falls, and his childrenn, John L., in the U.S. Army now in Europe, C. Edward, and Jean Ann at home; a daughter, Stella (Mrs. Carl Nelson) of Grand Forks, N.D. with her children, Norma Jean, Spokane, Wash., C. William in the U.S. Army now in Eurpoe; and son, Fred B. of Hamilton, Mont. and his son, F. Burton, of River Falls. Besides these children and granchildren, she is survived by four great grandchildren, children from Mrs. George Hempler and F. Burton Hanson. In addition to her descendants she is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Downer of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Julia Healy of River Falls. Her funeral was held from the Methodist church on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Her pastor, the Rev. J.W. Harris, delivering a highly fitting memorial address from the text: "Let Me Die the Death of the Righteous, and Let My Last End Be like His (Hers)!" Numbers 23-1. Mrs. J.W. Harris was at the console of the organ, and Mrs. Frank L. Anderson and Mrs. James Richards sang "Rock of Ages" and "Lead Kindly LIght". Her body was borne from the church to it's final resting place in the family lot in Greenwood cemetery by her grandsons, C. Edward and F. Burton Hanson, and her nephews, A. Ray, Frank L. and George A. Anderson, and Manley Healy.
