Hague, age 65 of Spring Valley was born April 23, 1933. She died Friday June 19, 1998 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. Delores was born April 23, 1933, and raised in Ellsworth. She was the daughter of Herbert and Martina (Newhorter) Bjork. She grew up in the Ellsworth community, graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1951. She married Russell Hague November 16, 1951 in Ellsworth. After marriage they lived in Maiden Rock for a few years before moving to River Falls. They farmed in the River Falls area for about 15 years. They moved to the Town of Spring Lake, rural Spring Valley in 1970. Delores worked as a homemaker, a cook at the Spring Valley Golf Course, helping care for other people through WestCap, and doing Home Health Care. Delores enjoyed her family and grandchildren, quilting, gardening, reading and horse pulling. She is survived by her husband, Russell, three sons; James (Linda) and Randall (Debbie) both of Elmwood; Richard (Denise) of Spring Valley; six daughters; Jeanelle (Lowell) Mandelkow of Elmwood; Suzanne (Dennis) Whirry and Elaine (Duane) Brorson both of Spring Valley; Sandra Shultz (Gale Shultz) of St. Mary, WV; Cynthia Clements (Mike Richardson) of Cottage Grove, MN; Kathleen (Barry) Christianson of Martell; 23 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; three brothers, Gerald Bjork of Newport, MN; Cecil Bjork of River Falls and Harold Bjork of Ellsworth, one sister, Shirley DeMotts of River Falls. Delores is preceded in death by her parents. Memorial services were at 1:30 PM Wednesday June 24, 1998 at the Spring Lake Lutheran Church, rural Spring Valley, with Rev. Keith Holste officiating. Burial of remains followed in the Spring Lake Cemetery. Friends called from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Elmwood and 1 hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. The funeral was held in the Lutheran church at Spring Lake the following Tuesday conducted by Rev. Moen and the remains were laid to rest in the Spring Lake Cemetery. He was born in Osterdalen, Norway, December 31, 1835. October 4, 1870, he married Sirianna Straalsjoe, coming to this country June 15, 1871, where they have resided on their farm in Spring Lake ever since. To them was born 6 children, of whom 5 survive him - Hogen, Anton, Chris, Inga, and Clara; all were present at the funeral. Besides the immediate family, he leaves one brother and two sisters (in the old country) and one brother, the youngest, living here. He leaves many distant relatives and a lot of friends. On Jan. 6, 1885 she married Knute Gaarden. Her husband died in Spring Valley, June 26, 1887. After the death of her husband she lived with her sister and brother-in-law, H. H. Gaarden, and was a mother to the children of her sister. She died March 12, 1922. She is survived by one son, Carl. Her son John died Dec. 30, 1907 in Garrison, MT. She was baptized and later confirmed in the Spring Lake Lutheran church. Following her confirmation she went to Minneapolis, where she did housework for a number of years. After her mother's death she went to San Francisco, CA., where her sister, Selma, resided. She remained there until 1907, when she returned to her home in Spring Lake. On June 27, 1908, she was married to Jacob Frisvold by the Rev. Paul Moen. The young couple went to housekeeping at once on the groom's farm, where they lived until Mr. Frisvold's death in 1934. Shortly after his passing Mrs. Frisvold moved to St. Paul to be near her three sisters, Mina (Mrs. Harry Koeler), Hannah Krellwitz and Gena (Mrs. Carl Holerud), and her brother, George, where she resided until her death Monday, Jan. 22. The funeral was held from Spring Lake Lutheran Church on Saturday, Jan. 27, Rev. Berven officiating. Burial was made in the Spring Lake cemetery. Besides her three sisters and brother she is survived by one niece and six nephews; also many more distant relatives and a host of friends. She came to America with her parents in 1867, at the age of 5, to Spring Lake, Pierce County, Wisconsin. She was united in marriage to Peter Folden in 1885. They lived at Wilson and Glenwood City, then moved to a farm in Spring Lake in 1893, which has since been her home. A year and a half ago, she was hospitalized for two months with a bronchial infection. She then stayed with her daughter for several months. Later, after a short stay at her home, she was taken to the Lutheran Nursing Home in Mondovi, where she died Jan. 27 1955, at the age of 93 years. She was preceded in death by her husband in November 1933, and also by two daughters, Gena and Libbie. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Lena Ryan, Glenwood City; and one son, Henry, at home, and one daughter, Mrs. Harold Bishop of Park Rapids; three grandsons, Rollie Bishop, Park Rapids; Howard Bishop, St. Paul; and Paul Bishop. LaMesa, CA.; together with four great grandchildren. Services for Mrs. Folden were held from the Spring Lake Lutheran Church on Monday, Jan. 31st with burial in Spring Lake Cemetery. Rev. He was born March 5, 1894 to the late Peter and Maria (Jacobson) Folden in Spring Lake Township, Pierce County, WI. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and was a lifelong member of the Spring Lake Lutheran Church. Henry had farmed in Spring Lake township. He sold his farm to Bill Hoven several years ago and moved to the village of Spring Valley, and had been a resident at the Spring Valley Nursing Home the past 13 years. Two sisters Gena and Elizabeth Folden preceded him in death. Survivors include his sister, Mabel Bishop of Park Rapids, MN and 3 nephews, Rollis Bishop of Park Rapids, MN; Howard Bishop of St. Paul, MN; and Paul Bishop of LaMesa, CA. Funeral services were Thursday, December 13, 1984 at the Spring Lake Lutheran Church with visitation one hour before services. Rev. James Gordon officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. In 1893 she came with her parents to Spring Lake, where the family has since lived. She worked in Minneapolis for several years, but spent most of her time at home with her parents. About a month ago she became sick; her condition grew steadily worse and she was taken to St. John's Hospital in St. Paul and April 23rd submitted to kidney operation. She died April 25th. Her sister Gina and Mrs. Mabel Bishop were with her until the last. The funeral was held from the home and the Spring Valley church Thursday, Rev. Berven officiating. Burial was made in Spring Lake Cemetery. She died at her home in Spring Valley of a sudden heart attack, June 5, 1962. She lived to be 87 years, 3 months and 18 days old. She was baptized as an infant on March 3, 1875, by Rev. Ulsaker, even before the organization of the congregation in Spring Lake. She later confirmed her baptismal covenant with God about 1890. At the time of her death her membership was at St. John's Congregation, where she had transferred from Spring Lake in March 1951. She was married to Anton Olson in July 1897. Two daughters were born of this union; Cora Julia and Evelyn. This marriage was dissolved and she later was married to K. Simon Dahlman, December 23, 1912. Mrs. Dahlman was preceded in death by her husband Simon; one daughter, Ophelia; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ole Hanson; one brother Mr. L. O. Hanson of CA., one sister Minnie Bergloff of MN. By her passing from this life she leaves one daughter, Cora, Mrs. Lyle Pence, Spring Valley, WI; three sisters, Mrs. O. T. Johnson, Foremost, Alberta, Canada; Mrs. C. E. Leslie and Mrs. C. H. Reichert of Minneapolis, MN; one granddaughter, Maxine, Mrs. M. H. Dahlman, and two great grandchildren, Ann and Bruce Dahlman, Carterville, IL and several nieces and nephews and other friends. In 1890 the family moved to Valley Junction in Monroe County. The family later moved to Spring Valley and in 1900 Mr. Chapman married Miss Bertha Anderson. To this union four children, Melvin, Harold, Gladys and Loyal were born. One son, Melvin preceded his mother in death. Mrs. Chapman died in 1911. In 1913 he married Miss Lillian McLaughlin and they made their home in the Elmwood area. Four children, Alberta, Irvin, Clifford and Neil were born to them. In 1940 he moved to Elmwood where he resided for the remainder of his life. He suffered from asthma for many years and about a year ago became seriously ill and was hospitalized but recovered and was able to return home until recently when he was again hospitalized. On January 10 he passed away at Memorial hospital at the age of 85 years and six months. Left to mourn his death are his children, Harold of Menomonie, Loyal of Pomona, CA, Gladys (Mrs. Ted Ramlet) of Route 2, Menomonie. Irvin, Clifford and Neil all of Red Wing. Alberta (Mrs. Roy Bauerkemper) of Route 3, Red Wing; three brothers, John and James of Tomah and Roy of Omak, WA; 18 grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren and lots of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 14 at 2 p.m. at Rhiel's Funeral Home with Rev. H. A. Pankow officiating. interment was in Spring Lake Cemetery. He was baptized and confirmed in the Spring Lake Lutheran Church of which he remained a member until his death. During World War I, he served with the infantry at Camp Zachary Taylor, KY. On Aug. 31, 1921 he was united in marriage to Verah N. Utter in Spring Lake. They were blessed with one daughter, Louise (Mrs. Merton Lamb) of Wilson, WI. After their marriage they farmed in Spring Lake until 1942. Since then they have lived in Spring Valley and Oregon where he worked in construction. The past six years they have resided at Prescott, WI. He served as custodian of the Spring Lake Lutheran Church for many years. He suffered a severe stroke on Thursday of last week and passed away Sunday evening, Oct. 1, 1967, at St. Joseph's Hospital in River Falls. He reached the age of 74 years, 9 months and 25 days. His father died in 1917 and his mother in 1938. Also preceding him in death was a brother, George, in 1959 and two brothers, John and Albert, in infancy and a granddaughter, Judith Marie Lamb. Surviving are: His wife, Verah, of Prescott, daughter Louise, and son-in-law, Merton Lamb of Wilson; four grandsons, Thomas of Elk Mound, Charles with the U.S. Marines serving in Vietnam, Douglas and William at home; one great grandson, Tommy; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Johnson of Minneapolis and Albina (Mrs. Ervin Timm) of Wilson; one brother, Charlie, of Knapp; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other more distant relatives. Visitation was held Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Geving & Keehr Funeral Home, with funeral services, Wednesday, Oct. 4, at the Spring Lake Lutheran Church. Rev. Ronald Leslie officiated. Beck Gerhard Inglard Beck was born to Tholine and Andrew Beck, November 11, 1885 in the town of Spring Lake, Pierce County, WI. He was baptized and confirmed in the Spring Lake Lutheran Church and had been an active member, also served as custodian for many years. The most part of his life was spent on the home farm in Spring Lake where he was born. The last few years after leaving the farm he worked for Armco Steel in Iowa. Since his retirement from Armco Steel eight years ago, he had made his home with his brother Charlie of Knapp. George became ill recently and had undergone surgery at Luther Hospital, in Eau Claire where he passed away Wednesday at the age of 73 years. His parents and two brothers, John and Albert preceded him in death. Surviving him are two sisters, Mrs. Anna Johnson of Minneapolis, Albina, Mrs. Ervin Timm, of Wilson, two brothers, Charlie of Knapp, Louie of Spring Valley, six nephews, 5 nieces and many more distant relatives. Funeral services were held Saturday 1 p.m. at the Spring Lake Lutheran Church with the Rev. W. C. Aanestad officiating. Interment was in the family plot in the Spring Lake Cemetery. In 1869 she came to America with her widowed mother and three of her brothers Paul, Peter and John. At the age of 16 she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. O. J. Hagestad, who at that time was pastor of the extensive Rush River charge, covering both Pierce and St. Croix counties. On June 19, 1874, she was united in marriage to Simon Banks of Spring Lake, where he had purchased a piece of land near the present village of Elmwood. By hard and faithful work those acres, which were then only densely wooded wilderness, were transformed into a splendid farm, where Mr. and Mrs. Banks have lived and labored together for the past 58 years. Three children were born to them, of whom two are living - Martin and Josie, both at home; Inger died at the age of 24. Mrs. Banks has been a cross-bearer for many years. About twelve years ago she fell and broke her hip, and since that time she has been more or less of an invalid. For the past six years she has been confined to her chair and at times to her bed. Finally death came to her relief on Wednesday morning March 2. The funeral was held from the home and the new Spring Lake Lutheran church, Saturday, March 5, Rev. Berven officiating. Owing to the blizzard and snow-blocked roads the funeral was not so largely attended as it otherwise would have been. Burial was made in the Spring Lake Cemetery. Besides her aged and feeble husband and two children, deceased is survived by several nephews and nieces also some more distant relatives here and in Norway. In 1870 he came to America, settling at first in Menomonie and a little later at Eau Galle. June 19, 1874, he married Miss Siri Sandtroen, and the young couple went to house keeping on the groom's farm in Spring Lake, which has since been their home. Three children were born to them - Martin and Josie, at home, and Inger, who died in 1902. Mrs. Banks died on March 2 of this year. Mr. Banks had exceptionally good health and a rugged constitution. In his earlier years, before trading points were established at Spring Valley and Elmwood, it was nothing unusual for him to walk from his home to Menomonie and back the same day, carrying quite a load each way. About five years ago he had a severe attack of the flu, and although he survived the attack, it left him in a weakened condition. He has, however, been up and about most of the time. Since Mrs. Banks' death his decline has been quite rapid. Wednesday, May 11, he died. The funeral was held from the home and the Spring Lake Lutheran church Friday, May 13, Rev. Berven officiating. Burial was made in the Spring Lake cemetery. Mr. Banks' death marks the passing of one of the oldest settlers in Spring Lake, where he was held in high esteem because of his sterling character, his friendliness and willingness to help whenever called upon. Martin was the oldest of three children, one of whom, a sister, died in 1902. Martin had exceptionally good health, never being compelled to seek medical aid until some years ago when he had some trouble with one of his eyes. On Christmas Eve, however, he suffered a stroke. Later hemorrhages aggravated his condition. He grew weaker and during the last days it was apparent that death was only a question of a short time. He died a few minutes after midnight Monday morning, Jan. 7 (1935). Funeral was held from the home and the Spring Lake Lutheran church Wednesday, Jan. 9, Rev. Berven officiating. Burial was made in the Spring Lake cemetery. Besides his sister Josie, deceased is survived by several cousins, namely the Andrew Johnson children, among whom are Mrs. Adolph Anderson of Spring Valley, Mrs. Gust Nelson and Milton Johnson of Spring Lake and Joe Johnson of Elmwood. On September 18, 1898 she was confirmed at the Spring Lake Lutheran Church by Rev. Toft. She was the youngest of three children, Inger, who died in 1900 and Martin who died in 1934. She lived at her home in Spring Lake until she homesteaded in Berg, ND. Later she returned to Spring Lake. After the death of her parents in 1932 and her brother in 1934 she moved to Spring Valley where she made her home until 1953. Since that time she had been living with her cousin, Mrs. Gust Nelson at Spring Lake, in her old neighborhood. She was a lifetime member of the Spring Lake Ladies Aid. She had been in failing health for the past four years. Two weeks ago she began to fail rapidly and was taken to Memorial Hospital at Menomonie, WI. where she passed away Friday morning. She leaves only three cousins as her survivors, Mrs. Marie Nelson of Spring Valley, Fred Johnson of Chicago, IL and Charles Johnson of Minneapolis, MN. Funeral services were held Monday, May 19, at the Spring Lake Lutheran Church with the Rev. W. C. Aanestad officiating. Interment was in the family lot at the Spring Lake Lutheran Cemetery. Mead Bailey Jr. was born at Lena, Stevenson Co., IL., March 16, 1843, son of a Baptist minister. When only nineteen years old he enlisted in the Union army at Kalamazoo, MI., joining Co. F, 19th Mich. Vol. Inf. He was discharged May 31st, 1863, at Detroit. After the war he came with his parents to River Falls, WI., where they lived for several years, moving then to Cady, in St. Croix Co. In 1873 he married Miss Isabelle Hanson, who survives him, with three children Mrs. George Schultz, of Edgewater, and Guy and Mark, of Spring Valley; five other children died in infancy. Later they moved to the town of Spring Lake, where they lived a number of years. While here Mr. Bailey helped organize and build the Spring Lake Lutheran church. Later they moved to Spring Valley. Besides his wife and children he leaves two brothers and one sister, and a host of more distant relatives, to mourn his death. Funeral was held Saturday from the Tousley undertaking rooms, Rev. Lambright officiating, and later from the Spring Lake church, Rev. Berven officiating. The American Legion was in charge of both services and at the burial in Spring Lake cemetery. At the age of 14 she came to the United States with her parents, settling in the town of Spring Lake where she grew to womanhood. March 9, 1873, she married Mead Bailey. Eight children were born to them - four sons and four daughters, of whom only a daughter and two sons survive; Mary Ellen (Mrs. Geo. Schultz) of Edgewater, and Mark and Guy, of Spring Valley. In 1899 Mr. and Mrs. Bailey and children moved to Spring Valley, which has since been their home. Mr. Bailey died Dec. 20, 1923. Since her husband's death, Mrs. Bailey has been living at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Crane, parents of Mrs. Guy Bailey. In spite of declining health she was able to be up and about practically everyday until about three weeks ago; March 24 she suffered a severe apoplectic stroke and from the very first it was apparent that her death was only a matter of days. She was, however, conscious much of the time and was very thankful to her friends who came to see her. She died Sunday evening, April 1. Funeral was held Wednesday April 4, Rev. Berven officiating. A brief service was first held at the Tousley undertaking parlors and from there the body was taken to the Spring Lake Lutheran church, where the main service was held. She was buried beside her husband in the Spring Lake cemetery. Besides her three children she is survived by a sister, Mrs. Carrie Johnson of Spring Lake, and three brothers, H. P. Hanson of Spring Valley, Ole P. Hanson of Rock Elm, and John P. Hanson of Emerald. She also leaves 17 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and a host of more distant relatives.
