    3. Hello: Just wanted to thank all who responded to my query regarding the subject issue. Several have given me some good leads to follow up on. Will let you all know if they pan out. I will probably begin uploading Obituaries to the boards again by Thursday. As I said before, these by default go to this list as well. I will keep it to 20 or less per day to give everyone a chance to clean out their mail boxes before the next bout. I am nearly finished with the 1860 Federal Census Index, only have Pleasant Valley, River Falls and Trimbelle to go. The 1850 St. Croix index will take no time, it's a very small census. Also, look for the June PIPOST newsletter from the SCVGS. Moi (who is NOT an author) contributed a small article regarding the Pierce County WIGenWeb Project at the request of Nancy Hawkinson, the editor of the PIPOST. Could have gone on and on, but I checked myself. Perhaps this will bring more visitors and volunteers alike to the project. Thanks again for all your good suggestions, I hope to have something on both World Wars for you soon. 3. Am seeking to locate an obituary or newspaper blurb in any local newspaper in regards to Peder Nilsen Haugen - died August1896, (in possibly Martell) This is the father of Nils Pedersen Haugen the Wisconsin statesman. Peder Nilsen Haugen came to the US in 1856, and eventually settled in Martell. He brought with him, his wife and children. Members of the Rush River Lutheran Church, both Peder and wife buried there. Had 4 children. Thomas Nilsen Haugen came to the US in 1860 and settled in Pierce county. His wife was Aaste Karine Haugen buried in the Rush River Lutheran cemetery died 1871. One son, of Thomas Nilsen Haugen --- changed his name after his service in the 2nd MN Co E, during the Civil War to John Thompson. John Thompson married Aaste Marie Engrebretsen, at the Rush River Church in 1868 and moved to Gilman Township, where they had 11 children. Eventually moving on to Sawyer county in 1900, considered a pioneer of Seeley, Wi Another son, Erick Thomasen Haugen - bounced between using Thomasen and Haugen, for a surname. However eventually settled on the Haugen surname. Erick and his father, Thomas Nilsen Haugen moved onto Ashland county, Wi to Mellen, where they settled and became some of the founders of the Lutheran Church there in Mellen. The end June of this year, there is a celebration of the 100th anniversary of that church.........and a Haugen family reunion coinciding. I have copies of an old Norwegian family bible that shows the descendancy of John Thompson, through his father Thomas Nilsen Haugen. This bible lists Peder Nilsen Haugen as being born 9 Sept 1816. However, I can find no written proof that Peder Nilsen Haugen and Thomas Nilsen Haugen are in fact brothers. I am absolutely convinced by family stories handed down that there is a connection but, would like to find that elusive piece of information that would show them together. I don't know if it could be in Rush River church records, in a city directory, newspapers etc............. but, I don't have local access, being in CAlifornia. Perhaps an obituary would show that Peder was survived by his brother, Thomas?? That would sure help. So if anyone on the list has access to a newspaper, where they might look this up, I would sure appreciate it. I have managed to locate many descendants of the this Haugen family and just since March, my report has grown to over 87 pages of information. If anyone is interested, I will gladly share what I can. 2. Debbie Barrett
    3. Today is the day we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for us. They went to war to preserve our union and our freedom. Take a moment to remember those in your family who have served their country, past and present, and honor their memories. I was sent this on another list and wanted to pass it along. In Flanders Fields In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. 3. Hello: The 1850 & 1860 St. Croix and Pierce County Census' are now online. You can access them through the "Census" link on the main page. I am working on an every name index to each now, but in the meantime you can still use the HOH index provided. Much appreciation goes to Nick Schommer who contributed these materials to the site, and to SK Publications for donating them to the USGenWeb archives. This is what I hope to do for the 1900 Census and later, as well. If you still haven't contributed but would like to, visit SK Publications page. The URL is on the Census page. Thanks again Nick. This is a great boon to the site and free genealogy on the internet! Debbie Barrett County Coordinator Pierce County WIGenWeb Project http://www.rootsweb.com/~wipierce/
