Don was born August 17, 1916 to the late Charles and Ruth (Peterson) Johnson in Minneapolis, MN. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and a long-time member of Spring Lake Lutheran Church, Spring Valley. Don attended school in St. Louis Park and graduated in 1935. After graduating Don began his career as a truck driver. In 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served in North Africa and Italy and was P.O.W. in Germany during World War II. On May 20, 1950 Don married Nan Abbott at St. Louis Park. Since 1959 they have lived in Spring Lake Township. Besides his truck driving business, working for Rayette for 37 years, Don and Nan also operated the Sears Store in Spring Valley for about 12 years. Don was a member of the Spring Valley Masonic Lodge, American Legion, American Ex-Prisoners of War, and was Spring Lake Town Chairman for several years. Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Harold. Survivors include his wife Nan, one daughter Nancy Borth, one son Dwight Johnson and his wife Karen, and 3 grandsons Doug Borth, Adrian and Adam Johnson, all of Spring Valley. He is also survived by 2 sisters: Julie and Earl Schleuder of Richfield, MN and Audrey Kinsman of Spring Valley, several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Visitation was held Tuesday from 3-5 and 7-9 at Keehr Funeral Home with Funeral Services Wednesday, March 3, 1993 at 10:30 AM at Spring Lake Lutheran Church, Spring Valley with Rev. December 22, 1887 to Andrew C. and Tholine Beck. She married Theodore Johnson also of Spring Valley, on June 20, 1910 in Perkins, CA. They returned to Wisconsin in 1928 and resided in Wilson, WI. Four children were born to them. Tholine Johnson Oare, who passed away in 1957, Theodora (Mrs. Elmer Bakke) of Minneapolis, Lester, who passed away in 1944 and Kenneth of St. Paul Park, MN. Her husband passed away in 1943. In addition to her son and daughter, she is survived by nine grandchildren. Leslie and Theodore Oare of Wayzata and Mound, MN., Marion Oare Smith of Darien, CT., Rickard Bakke, of Houston, TX., Carolyn Bakke, Denver, CO., Roger Bakke of Minneapolis, David Johnson of Cottage Grove, MN., Bruce Johnson of Newport, MN., and Karen Johnson, St. Paul Park, MN. Also eleven great-grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Albina Timm of Spring Valley, WI., and one sister-in-law Verah Beck of Spring Valley, WI. She has made her home in Minneapolis since 1955. She was a member of Lake Nokomis Lutheran Church and fifty year member of the Royal Neighbors. P. Jensen Mrs. Bodil Marie Jensen was born Oct. 2, 1853 in Denmark. In 1875 she married Jens P. Jensen. In 1885 they came to America, settling at first in Wildwood, but after a few months they moved to their present location in the town of Spring Lake which has since been their home. Twelve children were born to them: the following survive: Mrs. J. B. Parks and Mrs. M. J. Martin, of Spring Valley; Mrs. Rasmussen and Mrs. Anderson, of St. Paul; John, of Twenty-Eight; Martin and Severean of South Hill; Mesdames Dana and Earl Plumley, of Gilman; and Cyril at home. The other two died in infancy. Last February Mrs. Jensen was taken ill; later pneumonia set in, which, due to her age and weakened condition she was not able to survive. She died May 9. Funeral services were held at the home and Spring Lake church Sunday, Rev. Berven officiating. Burial was made in the Spring Lake cemetery. Besides her husband and children, she is survived by two brothers and four sisters - Peter S. Peterson, of Twenty-Eight, Louis Peterson, of Spring Valley, Mrs. H. P. Sorenson, also of Spring Valley, Mrs. Knutson, of St. Paul; and two sisters in Denmark. She also leaves eighteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren, besides a host of more distant relatives. They married there in 1840. They lived in Pulaski County, IN for a while before moving to Ellsworth, Pierce Wisconsin. Samuel's sister Theresa was first married to Perry Stuck in Ripley County, IN. She married second Elon G Bacon in Marion County, IN in 1851. Samuel, Mary & Elon are all buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Pierce County, Wisconsin. Nancy was born July 18, 1950, the daughter of Francis and Gladys (Aanrud) Netzell at Eau Claire, Wisconsin. She grew up in Minnesota and attended McKinley grade school, Marshall High School and Mechanics Arts High School. She lived in California for a number of years. On September 28, 1991 she married Richard Jensen at the Spring Lake Lutheran Church, Spring Valley. After being diagnosed with M.S., Nancy entered the Spring Valley Health Care Center 31/2 years ago. Preceding her in death were her mother; a niece Lisa Marie Ruzichka; brother-in-law Roger Jensen and father-in-law Lyman Jensen. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith and was a member of the Spring Lake Lutheran Church at the time of her death. On June 5, 1918, she was united in marriage to Martin Jensen at Minneapolis MN. They were blessed with a family of two children; Lyman of Spring Valley and Mardell (Mrs. Alfred Lewis, Jr.) of Plum City, WI. Since their marriage, the Jensens have lived in Spring Lake township where they owned and operated a dairy farm. About a year ago Mrs. Jensen suffered a severe stroke and since that time has been confined to the Menomonie Memorial Hospital and the Spring Valley Nursing Home. She passed away Wednesday, Jan. 11, 1967 at the Menomonie Hospital, attaining the age of 77 years, five months and eight days. Three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Besides her husband, Martin, and two children, she is survived by: 10 grand-children, one brother, John Elgaard, St. Louis Park, MN.; two sisters, Mrs. Victoria Kerr of Fall Brook, CA and Mrs. Mabel Schmidt of Bellflower, CA. At the age of 17 she came to America with two brothers and a sister settling at Wilson. On May 5, 1891 she was married to Ole Jacobson. The young couple set up housekeeping at Glenwood City, where they resided for 9 years, then moved onto their farm in the Town of Spring Lake, which has been their home since then. Seven children were born to them, four of whom survive: Olga, (Mrs. Carl Magnuson) of Minneapolis, Lenora, (Mrs. Arthur Jacobson), Phillip, and Orval all of Spring Valley. The three oldest children preceded her in death. Mrs. Jacobson has been an invalid for many years and for the last 12 years she has been confined to a wheelchair. She has, how ever been able to do her work until a year ago in February, when she suffered a stroke, which left her right side partially paralyzed. About a month ago, she developed a slight cold from which it was hoped she would soon recover, but her condition took a sudden turn for the worse and Tuesday, noon, June 25, she passed away, reaching the age of 76 years, 7 months and 25 days. Besides her husband and four children, she is survived by 5 grandchildren, one great grandchild; she also leaves a sister, Mrs. Mary Pederson of Emerald, a brother John Thompson of San Diego, CA., a half brother Knute, in Norway and several nieces and nephews. Funeral was held Friday, June 28 at the Spring Lake Lutheran Church, Rev. Berven officiating. Burial was in Spring Lake Cemetery. At the age of 12, with his parents, brothers and sisters, he came to America settling in Spring Lake. On May 5, 1891 he was united in marriage to Thora Thompson, the young couple setting up housekeeping at Glenwood City, where they resided for nine years, then moving onto their farm in Spring Lake which has since been their home. On May 5, 1946 they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary but due to his wife's illness, only nearest relatives were present. The following June 25th his wife passed away. The three oldest children also preceded him in death. The four surviving children are: Olga (Mrs. Carl Magnusen, Minneapolis; Lenora, (Mrs. Arthur Jacobson) Phillip and Orval, all of Spring Lake. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Mrs. Anna Stein, Los Angeles, CA., and Marie Friswold, Colorado Springs, CO; five grand children and 3 great grand children, several nieces and nephews and a host of more distant relatives. Mr. Jacobson was a faithful member of the Spring Lake Lutheran Church. He also served as a member of the Brookside School Board for many years as well as on Town Board, and also Town Treasurer for several years. Since the death of his wife he has lived with his son, Orval, on the home place. He has been in declining health for the past several years. He passed away on Saturday, July 25th at the age of 87 years, 2 months, 11 days. The funeral services were held from the Spring Lake Lutheran Church July 28, 1953, Rev. C. Smeby officiating. Funeral services were held at the home and the Spring Lake Lutheran Church Tuesday, March 23, Rev. Berven officiating. In spite of the inclement weather and the almost impassible roads, the services both at the house and the church were attended by quite a large number of people. The body was laid to rest in the Spring Lake Cemetery. Deceased was born in Foldalen, Norway, December 24, 1830. In 1855 she was married to Lars Jacobson. Nine children were born to them - 6 in Norway and 3 in America - of whom 6 survive: Jacob, Hogan and Jerry Jacobson, Mrs. Thron Anderson and Mrs. Peter Folden, all of Spring Lake and Mrs. John Ryan of Glenwood City. In 1867 she came with her husband and children to America and a short time after their arrival they settled on the land now owned by their son Jacob. By their industry and thrift the thickly wooded hills and uplands were in a few years converted into fertile fields and pastures. The old homestead is today one of the finest and best improved farms in Spring Lake. Mr. Lars Jacobson died about 4 years ago at the age of 91. Deceased was a few years younger than her husband. Besides her 6 children mentioned above, she is also survived by 35 grandchildren and 8 great grand children. She also has a sister living in Norway, who has a daughter in Spring Lake, namely Mrs. Ole Jacobson. He was baptized Nov. 11, 1934 at his home by Rev. Sven Berven and confirmed in the Spring Lake Lutheran Church by Rev. Berven June 19, 1949. He served as custodian of his church for several years and was an active and sincere member of this congregation at the time of his death. LeRoy attended the elementary school at Brookside and Spring Valley, graduating from Spring Valley High School in May 1953. On June 6, 1959, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Hannemann at Ladysmith, WI. Since their marriage they made their home and operated his father's farm in Spring Lake. Thursday, July 30th, at his home he was stricken with an apparent heart attack. He was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, WI., never regaining consciousness, he passed away Friday, July 31, 1964 at the youthful age of 29 years, 9 months and 12 days. Surviving him are his wife Bonnie, his parents, Arthur and Lenora Jacobson of Spring Lake; one sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Robert Jacobson, and one niece Debra of Shawano; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services were held on Monday, August 3, 1964 at the Spring Lake Lutheran Church with Rev. W. C. Aanestad officiating. Interment in Spring Lake Cemetery. Following graduation from Elmwood High School she attended River Falls Normal, receiving a Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education. Lenora taught at the Brookside School in Spring Lake for several years. June 1, 1927 she was united in marriage to Arthur W. Jacobson at Spring Valley, WI. The union was blessed with a family of two children, Lorraine (Mrs. Robert Jacobson) of Hudson, WI and LeRoy, deceased. The Jacobsons farmed the Jacobson Homestead Farm in Spring Lake township. She was a member of Spring Valley American Legion Auxiliary. Preceding her in death were her son LeRoy and one sister Olga Magnuson. Survivors include her husband Arthur, her daughter Lorraine and son-in-law Robert, three grandchildren Debra, Michael, and Brian Jacobson all of Hudson, WI, two brothers Orville and Phillip Jacobson, both of Colorado Springs, CO., several nieces and nephews. Visitation held Sunday at Keehr Funeral Home. Funeral services were Monday, July 20, 1981 at Spring Lake Lutheran Church, Rev. James Gordon officiating. Buried in church cemetery. Funeral services were conducted at the house and the Spring Lake Lutheran Church Saturday morning, Feb 21, Rev. Berven officiating. Interment was made in the Spring Lake Cemetery. Deceased was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Jacobson, of Spring Lake. He has been ill for several years with arthritis and for the last 3 œ years has been unable to leave his bed. In spite of his suffering, he was always cheerful. Although he had been sick for such a long time his death was rather unexpected, as there was no apparent change in his condition until the last 2 days before he passed away. He reached the age of 37 yrs., 6 mos., and 22 days. Besides his parents, he leaves to mourn his early death 5 sisters and 3 brothers: Mrs. Joe Johnson of Elmwood, Mrs. Thos. Singleton of Seattle, Wa; Mrs. George Wild of Rock Elm and Ida and Viola together with the 3 brothers, Carl, Arthur and Henry are at home. His death was the first break in the family. He was born June 10, 1825 in Lille Elvedalen, Norway and was married to Mari Folden in 1855. In 1867 he immigrated to the U.S. with his wife and six children, and settled in the town of Spring Lake, where he has since resided. He was one of the oldest settlers in this community. He was an honest, hard working man, a faithful Christian and a good neighbor. The funeral occurred Friday, Sept. 29, 1916, Rev. Kvaase officiating. The body was laid to rest in the Spring Lake Cemetery. He leaves to mourn his death his aged widow, three sons Jacob, Hogen and Jerry; three daughters, Mrs. Throne Anderson, Mrs. Pete Folden and Mrs. John Ryan of Glenwood City - 36 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, besides a host of relatives and friends. At the age of 18 years she came to America, making her home at first with her oldest brother, Christ Larson, in the town of Spring Lake. On June 17, 1881, she was married to Jacob Jacobson, and settled on the farm now occupied by their son Arthur and family. Nine children were born to them: Marie (Mrs. Joe Johnson) of Elmwood; Laura (Mrs. Alvin Reed) of Los Angeles, CA; Charley, Arthur and Henry of Spring Lake; Julia (Mrs. George Wild) of Rock Elm; Viola (Mrs. Herbert Schofield) of Cameron and Ida, at home. Lauritz the oldest of the children, died in 1920. Mrs. Jacobson was also preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1943. In 1927 Mr. and Mrs. Jacobson retired from the farm and moved to Spring Valley to make their home in the declining years. In spite of her advanced age, Mrs. Jacobson has been in fairly good health until about two months ago when she was taken ill with the flu. At first, hopes were entertained for her recovery, but as the days went by she gradually grew weaker and on Saturday, May 18, death came to her relief, at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 7 days. Besides her children, she is survived by 10 grand children and a host of more distant relatives. She was the last of eight children, five brothers and two sisters. The funeral was held from the home and the Spring Lake Lutheran Church on Tuesday afternoon, May 21, Rev. Berven officiating. Burial was made in Spring Lake Lutheran Cemetery. Jacobson Died at his home in Spring Lake, April 20, 1911, John L. Jacobson. Mr. Jacobson was born in the town of Spring Lake October 12, 1868. In 1893 he married Miss Lena Erickson and they made their home at Glenwood for 4 years after which they moved onto their farm in Spring Lake, where they have resided since. He had been in failing health for the last three years, but only a short time ago, his illness developed into quick consumption. Even though his death was expected, it was met with sadness by his host of friends in Spring Lake and vicinity who have known him from childhood. He was an honest and upright man, a true friend and a good neighbor. The funeral occurred Saturday, April 22nd, Rev. Paul Moen officiating. The body was buried in the Spring Lake Cemetery by the side of his daughter, Lavina, who died a year ago. He leaves to mourn his death his wife and seven children, his aged parents, 3 sisters - Mrs. Throne Anderson, Mrs. Peter Folden, both of Spring Lake, and Mrs. John Ryan of Glenwood, and 3 brothers Jacob, Hogen and Jerry all of Spring Lake, besides a great many friends.
