Hello: The 3rd part of "Pierce County in the World War", with photos is now online at www.rootsweb.com/~wipierce/wwi.htm The 1900 Federal Census has been ordered and should be scanned and online by the end of August (hopefully). Thanks to all who contributed! And, thanks to Elaine Ross, I figured another, less expensive way to do this, which I did not realize could be done, but, if it meets with approval, will be implemented for the next project, the 1870 Pierce County Federal Census, and other future census projects. What I is propose is this, rather than each donating $20.00 directly to SK and getting a copy of the CD (this places the total dollars needed for the 1870 Census at $260.00), we could, instead, place one order for the full census at a cost of $130.00. Each interested party would pledge however much money to the project they wished by contacting me with their name, email address and pledge amount. I would keep track of the running total. When it reached the $130.00, I would contact John Schunk at SK, have him order the CD and get the address to where each donator would need to send payment. You could then pay on line as before, or send in a check to SK, which ever you wished. The finished CD could then be donated to the UW-River Falls Area Research Center when I am finished making the every name index. This would perhaps aid their volunteer staff in researching for those who don't have Internet access. Does that make any sense? Questions? Let me know what you all think and if you are interested in pledging a donation. Speaking for myself and one other person on the list, we have a total of $40.00 towards this project already, only need $90.00 more. My email address for those interested in pledging is mrsgrinnin@home.com Thanks for all your support! John Watson and second wife Sarah Ann Stokes moved to River Falls, WI sometime after 1868. Had children Froome, Lily, Mira, Frank, Anna and Sara. Looking for more information on this family and their descendants. I have information on John's first wife, Fannie Pettinger. Pat B.
Some wonderful things have happened on the site this week. Elaine Ross has ordered the entire 1900 Pierce County, WI Federal Census through SK Publications. With that order, the census should be online for viewing within 2-3 months! I will, of course, be placing an every name index on the Pierce site that will be searchable. I have also placed the next installment of "Pierce County in the World War" online. Just have to scan the photos that accompany the text for this section. Another site user, Reta Sanford, who is also a member of the Pierce County Historical Association, is photocopying a scrapbook collection the Association holds on World War II veterans. And Stacey Anderson has volunteered to transcribe Oak Grove Township 1880 Federal Census. Through the generosity of these people, the website just keeps growing! Hello all: Have finished the every name index for the 1860 census. Have begun transcribing the book "Pierce County in the World War" written 1919 about Pierce County activities and men who served in WWI. The first installment is online, pages 52-71, including photographs of all enlisted men. Had to change the menu on the front page to accomodate all the new military items, so changed the links from each individual conflict to one general. So Civil War, WWI and Korea and Vietnam can now all be found under one heading, Military on the main page. Got lots more pages to come from this book. Have had to stop postings obituaries while the Genconnect message boards are down due to an upgrade. You can still view posted messages, but can't add anything new until they are finished working on them. Hope all of you who live in Pierce County were unscathed by the recent wild weather which struck Burnett County. Thanks to Darrow Wehrmann, a subscriber to this list, I am going to be able to begin work on the WWI section of this project. Darrow sent me his copy of the book "Pierce County in the World War", published in 1919. Not only does it contain the names of all the men who served with a short synopsis of their service, but it also contains photos of nearly every man in the book and info on the homefront efforts in the county, as well as photos of the people who served on the different councils and committees. Lots of familiar names in this one! This project will take a little time to put together. Lots of typing and scanning, but will be starting it very soon. Thanks again Darrow for this wonderful contribution. Will be returning the book to you as soon as I am finished. On another note, I have now finished the 1860 census index to accompany the census images donated by Nick Schommer and SK Publications. It is all online at www.rootsweb.com/~wipierce/census.htm. We just keep growing. Hope to see more contributions to the 1900 census at the SK Publications site. We are up to 8 of the 24 needed donations. Hope we can get the rest soon. I am seeking help with the following families and hoping some of the listers can assist me: Noll, Perkins and Dewey. My father is Richard Noll. His parents are Edward Peter Noll ( Born: 2/3/1903, Died: 01/03/1963) and Dorothy Mabel Dewey. Edward's parents are Peter Noll and Rose LaMont. Peter had another child by the name of Irene. Supposedly other children for Peter as well, but have not found that information. Dorothy is still alive, but I have gotten all that I can from her. Dorothy Dewey's parents were Frank George Dewey (born in Hartford, Wisconsin) and Ida Mabel Perkins (born in Maiden Rock, Wisconsin). Children born of this marriage were Ray Elmer Dewey (B: 1912), Floyd, Hiram, Guy, Clyde, Dorothy, Gladys, Violeta, Alice, Ruth and Jean. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have quite a bit about the living relatives, but no one can assist me with further information back. Many Thanks in advance, Wanda Noll-Gonzalez --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? Hello, I'm new to this list and would like to post my interests. I'm trying to trace the Ross family from Maiden Rock, WI. I'm particular interested in Luman and William Henry Ross. Luman was born New York in 1843 and enlisted in the Civil War in Cambridge, NY in Nov. 1861. He later moved to Maiden Rock, Wisconsin and married in 1879 to a Malinda. They had at least 3 children according to the 1900 census. William Henry was born in Maiden Rock in 1861, married in 1895 to a Catherine (Katie) Meng. I'm not sure where they married but they had 4 children. One born in Iowa, James Henry, two born in Nebraska, Ida and Anna, and Luman Lloyd in South Dakota. If you have any information on them or their parents, I would very much like to hear from you. Thanks, Elaine Ross
