I would like to share some information that I transcribed about my Pomasl family at the Area Research Center at UW-Stout in Menomonie. I hope that this information helps someone. Date: 04/02/1897 Source: Pepin County Courier, Page 5, Column 2, Died Data: In this city [Durand] March 25th after a protracted illness, Mrs. Agnes Pomassl aged 48 years. Agnes Schader was born in Wolfregg, Austria, Jan. 17th, 1849. In June 1874 she married Sylvester Pomassl and came to America in May 1881. She bore a long and painful illness of more than four years with christian patience and resignation and is highly respected by those who knew her intimately. She leaves a husband and six children, Frances, Mary, John, Louisa, Trace [Grace], and Carl [Charles] to mourn her loss. She was buried Saturday [27 March 1897] in St. Mary's cemetary, Rev. J. M. Date: 8/24/06 Source: Pepin County Courier, Page 1, Column 5, Tony Pomasl Dies Data: Frank Pomasl received a telegram yesterday morning anouncing the death of his only son Tony [Anton], at Weyburn Saskatchewan, Canada. Mr. Pomasl had received a telegram the day before that Tony was very sick and was at the depot ready to start when the second telegram came stating he had died. This is a sad blow on Mr. Pomasl who is greatly distressed over the news. Tony had been out in the region several years and was unmarried. Date: 05/07/09 Source: Pepin County Courier, Page 5, Column 3, Obituaries Data: POMASSL - Sylvester Pomassl, one of our aged and esteemed pioneers passed away at his home in this city last Friday morning [30 Apr 1909] at nine thirty o'clock. Death was caused by cancer of the throat. Mr. Pomassl has been in failing health for some weeks past being recently obliged to retire from the shoemaker trade. His was born in Austria Hungary Dec. 31, 1848. In 1874 he married Agnes Schaller, coming with his little family to America seven years later [1881]. They settled in this city [Durand] and resided here the remainder of their lives. Twelve years ago [1897] Mrs. Pomassl died leaving five children: Francis, Mary (Mrs. E. E. Anderson), Louise (Mrs. H. Meixner), Grace, John of Minneapolis, and Charles of this city. In 1906 Mr. Pomassl was again married his wife being Genevieve Janish of Lost Creek, Wis. Besides his wife the deceased is survived by a brother Frank of this city, 2 half sisters, 3 half brothers and a step mother in Pierce, Minnesota. Rev. C. B. Weikmann officiated at funeral services held from the Catholic church Monday morning at 10 o'clock. Internment was made at the cemetary near. Date: 06/24/10 Source: Pepin County Courier, Page 1, Column 2, June Weddings Data: Mrs. Sylvester Pomassl [Genevieve Janish], Durand, and Mr. Conrad Hoffacker, of Eau Galle, were united in the holy bonds of matrimony at St. Mary's Catholic church in Durand, Tuesday, June 21, at 9 o'clock, Rev. Trierweiler, officiating. They were attended by a brother-in-law and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. [Biederman] Frank Pomassl. The bridal dress was brown silk. After the ceremony they repaired [sic] to the bride's home where a sumptuous dinner and supper were served to thirty five guests. The table decorations were ferns and flowers. The out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. John Janish, Ellsworth; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bauer, Alhany; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Brier and daughter, Arkansaw; Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Bauer, Lima; Mr. and Mrs. Alois Wolf, Eau Galle. Mr. and Mrs. Hoffacker will reside at his residence on Lower Prospect Street. Trierweiler united in holy matrimony Miss Grace Pomasel of this city and Mr. William Black of Arkansaw. The bride wore white net over white silk and carried white roses. Miss Frances Pomasel of Minneapolis and Samual Black of Arkansaw attended the contracting parties. Following the marriage service, a wedding breakfast was served at the home of the bride's sister, Mrs. Henry Meixner in this city and at noon a sumptuous dinner was served at the house of the groom's mother, Mrs. Jas. Black at Arkansaw. In the evening the young folks greatly enjoyed a social dance in the arkansaw Opera House. The bride spent her girlhood days in this city and has many friends here. Mr. Black is manager of the Arkansaw Farmer's Store and is a most successful business man. The Courier joins in best wishes for a pleasant and prosperous future. Date: 02/10/21 Source: Durand Courier Wedge, Page 4, Column 4, Forest Vale Data: Last Wednesday Feb. 2d at nine o'clock at St. Joseph's church in Arkansaw Valley, occurred the marriage of Mr. Jack Bresina and Miss Clara Pomasl. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Father Engelhart. They were attended by Miss Matilda Bresina, sister of the Groom and Mr. Henry Pomasl, brother of the bride. The bride was attired in a dark blue suit and carried a bouquet of bride's roses. The bridesmaid wore a blue suit and carried pink roses. The groom and his attendant wore suits of blue serge. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bresina of Chippewa Falls, and although a stranger here is a young man of very pleasing manner. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Matt Pomasal of this place and is well known, having lived here all her life. After the ceremony a beautiful wedding dinner was served at the home of the bride's parents to the immediate relatives of the contracting parties. Mr. and Mrs. Bresina received many pretty, costly, and useful presents. They will make their home in Chippewa Falls, where he is employed as a telephone lineman. We extend congratulations. Father Englehart officiating. The best man was Mr. Henry Pomasl, brother of the bride, and bridesmaid was Miss Matilda Bresina, sister of the groom. The newly wedded couple will be at home at Chippewa Falls after the first of April. All that medical aid and loving care could do was to no avail and she passed away peacefully at 10:40 am, Saturday [24 Nov 1923] . She will be missed not only by the relatives but by a host of friends. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved ones. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Florian Baier and was born in the town of Eau Galle November 1, 1869. At the age of two years she, with her parents, mvoed on a farm near Arkansaw, where she grew to womanhood. Nov. 5, 1889 she was united in marriage to Matt Pomasl. To this union ten children were born. One son, George, died in infancy. Those who survive here are her husband [Matt Pomasl]; Clarence of Knapp, Wis.; Fred of Arkansaw, Wis.; Clara (Mrs. John Bresina), Chicago, Ill.; Ed, Grace, Henry, Laura, Helen, and Emma at home. She is also survived by one sister, Julia (Mrs. F. A. Southworth) of Chetek, Wis., and two brothers, Adam of St. Paul, Minn., and Albert of Arkansaw, Wis. Those who attended the funeral from away were Mrs. F. A. Southworth of Chetek, Wis., Adam Baier of St. Paul, Minn., George Baier of Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. Wm. Leidenfrost and Mrs Arthur McNabb of Peirz, Minn. Funeral Services were held at St. Joseph's church at Arkansaw November 27 and were conducted by Rev. Father E. D. Hess. The remains were brought to Arkansaw Monday evening and the funeral will be held a St. Joseph's church at 10 o'clock this morning. Deceased is survived by a husband and three small children. She died at the Minneapolis hospital Jan. 19, 1925 at 10:40 am. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Notham of Arkansaw. In August 1916, she was married to Clarence Pomasl. To this union were born three children, Margaret, Charles, and Evelyn. She lived at Knapp, Wis., during most of her married life. She is survived by her husband, three children, parents, four sisters, and three brothers.
