We have just found them within the last 5 years. My husband's g-grandfather was said to have owned a lumber camp in Pepin county and we haven't been able to find where it might have been located. His name was Edward Hawkins. He was given a land grant of 80 acres from President Franklin Pierce in 1859. He was married to Catherine Connell, both of them had been born in Ireland. Edward and Catherine had 11 children born either in Canada or Pepin County, Catherine (Connell) Hawkins died in Pepin about 1873. Their children's names are Rebecca (Mrs. Schofield) B: 01/18/1839, Frank B: 03/18/1841, Maria (Mrs R. Schofield) B: 03/31/1844, D:05/29/1881, Edmond T. B:03/11/1846 D: 11/07/1888,Frederick C. B: 03/02/1844, D:09/22/1889, Theresa B: 02/26/1852 D: 05/29/1854, Kate E. (Mrs. byington) B: 04/11/1854 D: 09/22/1889, Alfred A. B: 08/20/1865, Harriet D. (Mrs P.L. Little) B: 08/04/1861, John A. B: 03/24/1865 ( Hr. Hawkins live! d on the homesteas with John and his family) Edward Hawkins D: 03/01/1889. We are still searching and asking people if anyone has heard of the Hawkins Lumber Camp in Pepin County and where it might be.
