But the French Catholic cemetery -- the one on Dead Lake Prairie -- certainly isn't on anything I would call the top of the hill, and I've never heard it described as being in Arkansaw. On a hot summer afternoon, French Catholic is right down on those flats, without even a stir of breeze coming your way! Memorial is right on top of the hill as a person comes up out of town, and I think that it is the only one actually in Arkansaw. There's a hill some distance from the French Catholic cemetery (you can see it when you're standing there). There used to be a shrine in the cave in it, made of the paddle wheel of the boat that the LaPeans came on. Jim's aunt Norma remembered that Grandma Til (Matilda (LaPean) DeMarce Caturia) used to take her up there when she was little, after they had visited the cemetery on memorial day. Virginia
