    1. [WIPEPIN-L] Belgian descendants
    2. Picavet
    3. Hi! With this message I am trying to get help in my quest for Belgian descendants in your area. I am living in Belgium, and am doing research on the emigrants from a specific area in Belgium, the Waasland, to the United States and Canada between 1830 and 1950. If you would like to know more about this project, I invite you to my web site at http://www.ping.be/picavet/ In the frame of this research, I have already visited Wisconsin on two occasions, in 1995 and 1996. Places I am "familiar" with are Milwaukee, Green Bay, Aurora, Ashland, and Superior. This is not a coincidence: most of my people initially settled there. Most of them emigrated between 1850 and 1910. According to the 1990 Census, Wisconsin had one of the largest concentrations of Belgian descendants in the United States. ---------------------------- Belgian ancestry reported as: State Population First Second Single -------- -------- ----- ------ ------ Michigan 9,295,297 37,442 22,824 18,966 Wisconsin 4,891,769 36,822 25,681 19,133 Most of them can be found in Brown 194,594 16,696 11,407 8,310 Kewaunee 18,878 4,825 1,431 3,251 Door 25,690 2,864 1,248 1,844 Milwaukee 959,275 1,389 1,381 597 Outagamie 140,510 1,303 1,500 543 Oconto 30,226 1,081 736 719 Dane 367,085 761 662 293 Manitowoc 80,421 721 702 342 Marinette 40,548 666 654 340 Waukesha 304,715 639 690 225 (pls let me know if you are interested in this information for other counties) Since it will be difficult to know for anyone not familiar with the families from my area, if a specific family is fitting in my project or not, I am actually looking for any Belgian family in your area. In return, I will also assist any Belgian descendant to trace his roots in Belgium. With this in mind, I have set up my web site, which is containing complete guidelines for anyone starting to trace his Belgian roots. Moreover, I recently started a mailing list especially for these same researchers: BELGIUM-ROOTS-L, also hosted by RootsWeb. It would be nice to hearing from you. 3. Kewl.....a distant relation, here....maybe. I have a Edwin E. Weissinger that married a Margaret Pichler and a Romanus Weissinger that married a Barbara Pichler in my family tree (on the FAAST side). I have been meaning to ask someone, were Edwin and Romanus brothers? I have them both with John as their father. Is this the same John? 2. SuziQ
    3. Ok, I have heard a new rumor and I am wondering if anyone can verify it. Apparently one of the mills in the Durand area was bought by someone from KY and that he brought mill workers up from that area. I have never heard this one before, just wondering if anyone else has. Also, if you get a copy of an origional land patent, does anyone know what juicy info it would contain? I found out Orlando Perkins was issued an original land grant -- but wonder if it is worth paying for the details of it. Thanks, SQ -- HAVE A GREAT DAY! This is SuziQ......signing off!! 1. [WIPEPIN-L] Lampman Family bible
    2. GREG LAMPMAN
    3. I am trying to locate the family bible of Peter Lampman, father of Stephen Lampman, who lived in Pepin CO., since 1871. He settled in the Pepin area first, then Union Township, Pierce Co., Frankfurt Township, and finally in Durand where he died. His wife Mary A. (Lamb) Lampman survived him, and died in 1936. Their oldest daughter (Nellie) had the bible according to my grandmothers notes, until she died in 1941. One of her children was supposed to have recieved it then, and it may have possibly been a daughter named Bertha who married a Snyder or Sadie (?) who married a Glen Hall or one of the other ten kids. Anyone with any help would be appreciated. I am interested in the marriage, birth, death, baptism records, etc. I believe this bible should stay with its present owner as a family heirloom. Thanks so much Greg Lampman

    1. STOKES, CATUR(I)A, KAINZ families in Pepin Co.
    2. Gordon Madison
    3. About 1850/60 Thomas J. Stokes and his first family, moved to Durand from Indiana to Pepin Co. He first was in Bear Creek, but then moved into Durand. He was for a time, owner/operator of the Eagle Hotel in Durand. His son, (my G/Grandfather Oliver Stokes) built the Stokes hotel which is still in use in downtown Durand. Thomas had two large families, the first one with wife Margaret COVE Stokes. She either died or they divorced and he married Huldah TAPLIN, with which he had another large family, and finally in his later years Arethusa HUGHES. Sometime prior to 1860, the CATUR(I)A family moved to the Arkansaw area and set up a number of farms. I understand there are still some Caturia's in the area. My G/Grandmother (wife of Oliver Stokes) was Myra CATURA. Also in the early to mid 1800's Andrew or Joseph KAINZ immigrated into the Durand area from either Austria or Germany. My grandmother was Ann Kainz. Does anyone have any information on any of these families???? I have quite a bit on Thomas Stokes and his families, but still have many gaps. Also some info on the Caturia's. Can we share anything?? Regards, Gordon Madison Chambersburg, PA gmadison@epix.net
